Fairy Lights
New Year's Day wasn't much of a celebration in her family. It was more of an "Oh good, we made it through another year." Kind of day. But this year she wanted something special, something more than just, "Ah, thank merlin I'm alive."
OOO
Yellow, curly hair fell down to her shoulders and a pink headband held them away from her face. She got down from her position on the ladder, and began to take the paint tray over to the table. And then it all happened at once, she tripped on thin air, knocking the tray out of her hands. Her hair changed from yellow to red in surprise, and then back to yellow again. Cursing under her breath, she hoisted herself back up and cast a spell to clean up the mess she had made.
More often than not she found herself tripping over absolutely nothing. It was one of the things that she wished she could change about herself: her clumsiness. She could change her appearance and she could change her style, but she couldn't change who she really was.
OOO
Purple streamers hung in detailed bunches from the ceiling, glowing balloons filled the room with a hazy pink light, fairy lights lined the edge of the roof, small platters of finger food were laid on the tables and the Weird Sister's new hit song played in the background. She really had outdone herself.
Happy with her work, Nymphadora Tonks invited her guests inside. She had sent everyone a patronus earlier that day.
Andromeda was the first to enter the room.
"Dora, you've done a great job. I'm sure Ted will love this!" She exclaimed, looking around the room at her daughter's handiwork.
One after the other, guests started filing into the small living room.
"Really, I should have thought about space requirements…" Tonks muttered.
All but one guest had attended the celebration. The metamorphmagus knew he wasn't one for parties, but she was hoping he would come anyway, for her.
"Tonks?" Through the loud music and the chatter of the many guests, she heard a familiar voice.
"Oh my gods, Remus, you came!" She yelled happily as she finally reached him.
"Now why would I miss this?" He said as he flashed her a grin.
Knotting their hands together, they danced under the fairy lights until it was time to welcome the New Year.
"Some year this could turn out to be." Remus said as he looked down at the girl in his arms, her hair now a trademark shade of bubblegum pink. "Happy New Year Tonks."
