I don't even know . . .

Wrong Ninetails

The village was burning. Flames roared and people screamed, and smoke began to choke the sky. As Minato watched from a stone face carved into a cliff, the demon fox laid waste to his home. Then it stopped, paused, and turned towards him, long ears flat against its head, lips curled back in a guttural snarl. The nine tails writhing behind it stilled, and then it roared, and Minato winced at the world-breaking sound.

"So you finally noticed me."

One deflected tailed-beast bomb later, Minato was staring the Kyūbi in the eye, mere inches away. It snarled at him and swiped with a massive paw, and he easily danced around the strike. It slashed again and again, never once coming close to connecting.

Minato paused as he landed on its head, curling a fist over its coarse fur. I need to get it out of the village.

He winced as it rolled over in an attempt to shake him off, intentionally or unintentionally flattening six buildings and four times as many shinobi who had been to slow to get out of the way. His mind raced, and he managed to recall that one of his special kunai had been several miles away from the village after his fight with Madara. He could feel it, brushing up against the edge of his senses.

Just as he was about to gather his power to make the jump and take the Kyūbi with him, a young voice shouted, "Hey mister! Watch out!"

Out of the corner of his vision, Minato saw something round and purple about the size of a fist shooting towards the Kyūbi. Assuming it was some kind of an explosive, he immediately teleported out of the way and onto a nearby building (one of the ones that was still standing, that is).

Before his incredulous eyes, the purple ball bounced off the Kyūbi, cracked itself open, and then a light spilled out and ensnared the beast, turning it almost entirely red and making its features vanish before sucking it inside with a frustrated wail. Within moments, a demon the size a mountain had been compressed into something Minato could carry in one hand.

Everyone stared at the ball that wobbled once, twice, three times until it went still with some kind of a pop.

"I got it!" As one, the citizens of Konoha turned as a strangely-dressed boy with spiky black hair and a stupid grin on his face ran up to the ball and held it high like a trophy. "I just caught a Ninetails!" The boy started cheering to himself over and over again, and everyone could only stare with utter disbelief that someone so dumb had managed to defeat the monster that laid waste to their home.

Minato felt a tap on his shoulder and glanced over to see one of his ANBU standing there hesitantly. "Yondaime-sama, what just happened?"

Minato opened his mouth to reply, but before his tongue could form the words there was a rush of air, and suddenly the Kyūbi was among them again in all its monstrous glory. Everyone from Konoha just about had a heart attack and made to beat a hasty retreat, but the strange boy only stood there with that stupid grin still on his face.

"Hi, Ninetails! My name's Ash Ketchum, and we're gonna be great friends!"

Author's Note: A stupid idea that I just had to write. Enjoy.
