It was lunch time in the Knight house.
"What do you boys want to drink?" Mr. Knight asked, holding the refrigerator open.
"Root beer." said Kendall.
"Kool-Aid." said James.
"CHEMICAL X." said Carlos.
"Logan?" Mr. Knight asked, looking at his smaller son.
"Milk." Logan replied, earning tongues from his brothers.
"Milk it is." Mr. Knight said, gathering four cups.
"Ooh, I want the red one!" called Carlos, pointing.
"I WANT BLUE." said James.
"I call green." Kendall said coolly.
"HAHA LOGAN GETS YELLOW. HE'S A GIRL!" Carlos chanted.
Logan made a pout face. "I am not."
"Yeah-huh, yellow's a girl color!"
"No it's not!"
"Yeah-huh! Ask Kendall."
"Is it, Kendall?" Logan asked.
"No. Yellow is the color of the sun. And the sun is a boy." Kendall said simply.
"How?" Logan asked, a skeptical look on his face. Mr. Knight laughed.
"Alright, guys, eat. You can play outside when you're done, okay?" he said, putting four peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on the table.
"YAY!" They cheered. They all ate as fast as they could, and hurried out the back door.
"I CALL SWING!" James yelled.
"I get the other one!" Logan said.
"I'm gonna climb the tree!" Carlos yelled, slowly making his way up the tree branch by branch.
"Carlos, be careful..." Kendall said hesitantly.
"Oh, Kenny, no need to worry. I am an expert tree-climber." Carlos said confidently, leaning on the tree.
"Ohhhkay." Kendall said laughing. Carlos continued climbing up the tree. The rest of the boys were occupied with their mud pies when they heard a thud followed by a painful screech. The boys looked over, startled. Mr. and Mrs. Knight hurried out he back door to see what was wrong. Carlos was squirming around on the ground, hugging his arm.
"Carlos! What happened? What'd you do?" Mrs. Knight yelled.
" I- I was climbing the tree. I fell out. I hurt my arm." Carlos panted. Mr. Knight lifted him up and brought him inside on the couch while the boys quickly followed. Mr. Knight examined Carlos' arm while he squealed in pain.
"I think we have to take him to the hospital." Mr. Knight stated, looking over at Mrs. Knight.
"Who will watch the boys?" Mrs. Knight asked.
"They're big boys. I think they can handle it. We'll only be gone an hour or so."
"Alright, let's go." Mrs. Knight said, grabbing her purse. "You boys behave yourselves." Carlos looked at his brothers nervously before heading out the door."
"Do you think his arm is broken?" James asked with a panicky look on his face.
"I don't know, maybe. Logan, you're the doctor. Is it broken?" Kendall asked, turning to Logan.
"Probably. He was really high up..." Logan trailed off.
"But he won't be able to make any more mud pies!" James said.
"Only for a little while." Kendall said, trying to calm James.
'Still..." James said. For the next half an hour, the boys stared frantically out the window for the arrival of their brother.
"Guys, they're here!" Kendall exclaimed. Carlos walked through the door, a giant grin on his face.
"Check it out!" Carlos said, pointing to his red cast on his tiny arm.
"Woahhh." All of the boys crowded around Carlos.
"You guys wanna sign?" Carlos said, holding out a black marker.
