I was asked to write a one-shot centering around Renesmee and Esme bonding, so here it is.

It's not very long, but I think it serves the purpose.

Disclaimer: I don't own Twilight.

Enjoy!

"Hello," Renesmee said peeking into the Cullen mansion, "Esme, are you home?"

Esme had been tending the garden when she heard her grandaughter's voice calling her.
"I am here now," she responded, placing an arm around her grandaughter's shoulder. "For what do you grace me with your presence this fine morning?"

Renesmee laughed, "nothing important. I missed you, so I came. Am I a criminal?"

Now it was Esme's turn to laugh, "hardly so, my darling. I was just shocked that's all, it's pretty rare for you and I to be alone in this chaos of a house."

Renesmee frowned, "what is that supposed to mean?" You know that I am very busy with school, and when I am free Rosalie and Alice insist I spend time with them. My mother argues that she barely sees me anymore."

Esme smiled, "oh honey, I understand. What I meant is that you barely come home anymore, seeing that you spend half of the year in boarding school. I do agree with Bella though, we barely see you anymore. And if it's Rose and Alice who are keeping you away from us, then I am bound to have a talk with them."

"Still," Renesmee said, "I hear sadness in your voice—tell you what, tomorrow you and I can go to that charity event together. You don't have to go alone!"

At that, Esme's eyes lit up, "well, I would be honored! I am sure you will enjoy it there, and they would be very pleased to meet my newest adoptive 'daughter'."

Renesmee smiled, "if I had known you would have been so pleased at my suggestion, I would have done it a long time ago."

Looking at her watch, Renesmee exclaimed, "I am supposed to meet Seth in half an hour. I am so very sorry but I promise you, I will go that charity event and I will spend more time with you."

Esme smiled, " and I promise you that I will speak to Rose and Alice about their hogging habits."

Renesmee laughed, "I am sure you will, goodbye now and don't go too hard on Rose," she said as she kissed Esme's cheek and left, leaving Esme standing there with a content smile on her face.
