A bird squawked in the middle of the night. Crickets chirped and one small, red dragon snored loudly. The moon light was half full and looked like Ying and Yang. Houses lined the cobble-stone streets of a Chinese town. In the center of town, there stood the house where two married heroes of China lived. Li Shang and Fa Mulan (now Li Mulan). The moon light shone over the blessed couple.
Li Shang's eyes fluttered open. Without moving his head, he glanced around and saw him wife, Fa Mulan, next to him with his arm around her. He smiled and studied his wife. Her short black hair, her long eyelashes, her tanned skin, her small smile...And her blush on her cheeks that exposed her fighting and trouble-making spirit. His smile faded and he stood up, taking away his arm around. He'd almost killed Mulan and left her to decay in the snowy Li Shung Pass. Then China would've been ruled by Shan Yu and the Huns. And Mulan would be dead...dead...dead...The words echoed accusingly and guiltily in his ears.
Shang walked to the open balcony and studied the moon. Ying and Yang...He'd almost destroyed their relationship with his stupidity. He did not deserve a woman like Mulan, even though she chose him. She was brave, strong, beautiful, and sweet. Everything he ever wanted all in one wife. It was a miracle that he shouldn't have. After all, he would've killed that miracle and left it to die in snow! What kind of husband would he then be?
One stupid husband, he thought. He glanced at his wife again and sighed.
Suddenly she shifted, yawned, and turned to him, awake. "Hello, Captain," she joked. "I'm on time, aren't I?"
Shang smiled and this was around the time he'd usually give her a long kiss to wake her up. But not this time. "Good morning."
She noticed. "What's wrong?" Mulan stood up and joined him at the balcony. She glanced at the moon, placed his hand on her shoulder, and gave a small snort of amusement. "Ying and Yang, huh?"
"Yeah, huhuh." Shang gave a fake laugh.
"Come on, I know that face." Mulan gave him a kiss as high as she could, which was on his lower jaw.
"What face?" Shang glanced away guiltily from her eyes that could make Shan Yu confess all his sins.
"That face," she answered. "Tell me what's wrong!"
"Nothing, why?"
"Shang!"
"I can't do this anymore."
"What?" Mulan's eyes widened. "Why?
Startled, Shang glanced at her and immediately became stuck in the beauty of her eyes. "Nothing...Just...the day at the mountains."
"Shang, enough about that day! You were just following the law! And besides, you could've killed me but you didn't! That's all that matters now! The day has gone and you need to stop dwelling in the past and looking to the future."
Mulan stood as high as she could on her tip-toes and gave him a big kiss. To her shock, Shang stepped back and gave her a small shove. "No," declared Shang. Mulan's eyes filled with hurt tears. Immediately, Shang felt guilt and reached towards Mulan to say sorry and gave her a hug. "I'm sorry," he whispered. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you."
"It's okay, Shang. I've been hit harder," she joked, returning the hug. Shang gave her a kiss on the top of her head which made her sigh, happily. "Shang, I love you." Mulan pulled away.
"I love you too. I was...just worried." Shang immediately started to feel better.
Then Mulan grabbed his hand and placed it on her stomach. Shang gasped as he felt something. "What was that?"
"The child."
"The-the..." Mulan nodded at his half question. Shang began to tear up and hugged his wife tighter than ever.
Soon they laid back down and fell asleep in a very comfortable positon. Mulan burying herself in his warm arms and Shang continuing to give a trail of kissed on her face, not tired anymore.
Happily Ever After...
