~ Scott McCall ~
"Good, I hated it." Stiles stated gladly while turning the truck on, almost deflating while letting go of the breath he was holding.
I turned to him with a hard look, he may not know what the tattoo meant for me but he could at least be supportive of it.
"What? I just-"
He was cut off by my phone vibrating in my pocket, "Mom, is everything okay?" I ask concerned, she normally doesn't call during her night shift unless something has happened and now that she knows, it'll just add to the worry.
"Hi honey…"
"Mom, are you okay? Stay where you are. Are you safe? Is anyone hurt? Are you hurt? Who're you with? Did Derek do something? Where are you?" I fired question after question at her and panicky looked at Stiles who was already turning the car around towards the hospital and speeding; if being the sheriffs son was ever an advantage, it would be when your best friend has a police radio in his car.
"Scott you need to calm down. I'm not hurt… no one's life in in danger, not really… I'm going to be okay..."
I drew my eyebrows together, lightly hitting Stiles on the arm and shaking my head, silently saying that we don't need to go to the hospital.
"Mom, you're not really making much sense…"
A quiet sob came from the telephone making me even more confused, why was she crying?
"Honey, remember aunt Sylvia and her husband, uncle Philip?"
"Yeah course I do, they used to visit with Merci before I... Before I changed." I answered sadly, I didn't mean to distance us from the only family we had left, but it was safer for them.
Coming to Beacon Hills was far too dangerous for regular humans, with werewolves and hunters running around something bad could happen. I would never forgive myself if anything happened to Merci or her parents if they came to visit, I was already having a hard time trying to protect Mom and Stiles and the rest of this town as it is.
It's simply not safe enough.
"Well, Merci will be staying with us next week…" She said uncertainly.
"Mom, you know it's not safe for her to come here." I said annoyed, now is not the time for things to get complicated again. "Wait, what has Merci got to do with the fact that you're crying…?"
"How'd you kno- never mind." She signed, avoiding answering my question.
"Mom."
Silence stretched over the line, "I was just, um, visited by the, er, UK military ambassador. He handed me a letter. Merci is going to be staying with us for a while."
"How long?" I ask, if the military is ordering her stay in the States then there isn't anything I can do to change that.
This means I'll have to make another deal with Derek, he is an alpha after all.
In a way, besides the danger, I'm glad she's going to be staying with us. She's a year older but syncs with Stiles and I better than anyone with her stubborn and sarcastic attitude.
I heard her sigh on the other side of the phone and I started to have a bad feeling, like you've been terribly wrong and someone is going to say the glass is half empty rather than half full. "At least senior year, she has to make up the year for missing classes in London to get some grades."
"Mom, you know that's too long, she can't. It's already hard to protect the town as it is and I don't want her or anyone else to get hurt because I was busy and couldn't help them. The situation with Derek right now... It's too dangerous."
"She doesn't have a choice. We don't have a choice."
"Mom what're you not telling me? What if she gets bitten? What if she'll be the next 'animal attack'? I don't want to-"
"Philip and Sylvia are dead." She whispered and broke down into sobs.
