Prompt #1: Sparring
Rating: PG
Pairing: Gin/Kenpachi
A/N: 1 in a series of 10 based on prompts that I came up with. These are in no order but are centered around Gin and Kenpachi. This one is set when Gin is assistant captain to Aizen and Kenpachi has just been made captain.
Ichimaru Gin had felt the spiritual pressure while half way across the Seireitei. He wondered who could have been releasing it at such a high level as he ran from rooftop to rooftop. A sudden rush of spiritual pressure caught him as he headed towards the 11th Division's training grounds. It was coming from there. His grin grew even wider as he saw the giant of a man that had become the new 11th Division captain, Zaraki Kenpachi.
Lightly Gin leapt down to the ground and walked over to where the captain was sparring with one of his men. A crowd of onlookers mostly from his division but some from other divisions had gathered around. They gasped as the person Zaraki had been sparring with was thrown clear across the grounds.
"Ow. That's going to smart in the morning," Gin said as he walked up.
Zaraki turned towards him, blood oozing out of a face wound he had received. "Who the hell are you? Got a message? If not then beat it. Unless you want to fight me."
Gin shook his head, his smile still on his face. "No. I just want to watch. Please don't mind me."
Zaraki smirked. "You're just afraid I may kill you," he growled.
Gin shrugged. "Maybe I am."
"Just one round," Zaraki said as he walked over to Gin. "One round and then you can go back to being a spectator."
A part of Gin wanted to battle with this man. Another part of him, the sane rational part, told him he better get back to the safety of the 5th Division office that he shared with Captain Aizen. In the end the battle-hungry part of him won.
"All right. I'll fight ya, but I warn ya I won't be easy on you."
"Big talk for a runt like you." Zaraki gave him a sinister smile. It reminded him of a lion hunting a defenseless gazelle. So Gin was going to be prey was he? Then he'd have to push as hard as he could.
Before he make heads or tails of anything Zaraki was lunging at him with his zanpaku-to out. Gin dodged at the last seconded and ended up splayed on the grass. Zaraki turned around quickly and dove towards him missing Gin again. Gin knew that running wasn't going to win the fight so he turned and faced Zaraki. This time their swords clashed and sparks flew. People watched as the two men did a kind of dance, their swords screaming their resolve.
Gin was pushed back, blood blossoming on his chest. He ran a finger through the liquid and his trademark grin widened. "Ya going easy on me, Captain Zaraki. I'm flattered!"
"Like hell I am!" Zaraki roared as his sword barely missed Gin's ear.
Suddenly the murmuring from the crowd stopped and both men felt someone else's spiritual pressure near theirs. They turned to see Aizen Sosuke, Captain of the 5th Division, striding over towards them.
"There you are, Assistant Captain Ichimaru. I was looking all over for you. I've got some business to attend to elsewhere and I need you to accompany me." The bespectacled captain's gaze went from Gin's blood splattered form to the hulking man beside him. "Ah, you must be Captain Zaraki. A pleasure to meet you." Aizen bowed.
Zaraki just grunted in reply. Gin gazed up at him and said chirply, "We can continue this another time, Captain. It's been a pleasure though."
"Same here."
Zaraki watched as Gin followed close behind Aizen. He knew that man was a warrior and probably a fierce one at that. He was holding back. Zaraki didn't like when his opponents did that. It only meant that a rematch was in order.
