Emily the Stirling Single engine tries hard to be a good big sister to her brothers James and Percy, and she often succeeds due to her kind and compassionate nature.

But she is mischievous at times, and also very bossy. This can cause some conflict between her brothers and herself, but they always make up in the end.

One day however she had a bad day due to the trucks always arguing and being a pain, so she ended up being even bossier to her younger brothers than usual. She ordered them to shunt her coaches to get out of her way and so on.

The two engines tried to be nice and kind to their only sister, but she got on their nerves so much that when she ordered them to move out of her way at Knapford in a bossy manner, James had enough, and hissed steam at her.

"Why wouldn't you guys move?" She asked. "I need to get going!"

"Actually Emily, they told me to tell to that they aren't speaking to you form the rest of the week." Hiro informed her.

"Why?"

"Well, you always boss them around Emily. Perhaps if you had tried being kinder..."

"Pooh!" Snorted Emily derisively. Though, deep down, she really was worried about all of this. But she pushed it out of her mind and after glaring at her brothers, she steamed out again, fuming.

"How dare they-why, they will do no such thing!"

But when she told Gordon, her father, about the matter, he told her brothers had a point.

"You were bossy and rude towards them, Emily." Gordon chided his only daughter.

"That's right, Emily. I heard all about it." The Fat Controller added, sternly.

"Now they'll be speaking to everyone but me for a week! What do I do, sir?"

"What I would do, Emily, is to try and hold others in the best position possible. Not necessarily place them on a pedestal, but try and do it so that they don't feel like they are being pushed into a hole." Gordon advised.

"Well said, Gordon." The Fat Controller added. "Couldn't put it better myself."

So Emily endeavoured to do just that, and for the rest of that week, remained kind and good tempered as best as possible and before long, she and her two little brothers had patched things up and they were all friends again.
