A/n: okay, so I'm tackling yet another story. This week, you'll get four new stories from me, so I hope you enjoy them. This will update every Monday.
Disclaimer: Do I write like I'm V Roth?
Chapter One:
Tris
The twins are asleep in the back of the car. Alexis Campbell is on the right, Hailey Olivia on the left. I'm in the front, driving with directions from my GPS. The way it's taking me is the longest drive ever.
At last, I pull up to the house. My aunt Tori and my cousin, Kayla, run out to help. Kayla is eighteen, born just before my brother, Caleb. Or, should I say, former brother?
"They're so cute!" Kayla gushes, taking Hailey into her arms. Her eyes open, and she smiles up at Kayla.
Tori reaches in to take Alexis, who wakes up, and starts crying.
"I'm sorry." Tori says, over the racket.
"It's okay." I assure her, taking Alexis into my arms. "She's just shy. She'll get used to you soon enough."
Kayla is cooing and making faces at Hailey, who is smiling and laughing. Tori laughs, and leads me inside.
The house is a large one. It's a three-storey, with a pool in the backyard. Don't get me wrong, Tori isn't rich. She is, however, very smart, and successful.
Tori ushers me up the carpeted staircase, and down the hal; to the right. At the end of the hall, there are two doors. Tori opens the one on the left to reveal a fully furnished nursery.
It has white carpet, and the walls are painted with little hearts and stars on them. The crib and changing table match the walls and floor. I lay Alexis down, and she immediately goes to sleep. I smile at my daughter, as Kayla lays Hailey down in the other crib. Then, Tori leads me through a connected bathroom, and into my bedroom.
It's large, with a light tan carpet. The walls are unpainted, but Tori made it clear when I last talked to her that I could paint it any color I like. The bed is large, with soft looking pillows.
"thanks, you guys." I say, fighting back my tears.
"You're so very welcome." Tori says, pulling me into a hug. Kayla follows suit.
"When does school start back?" I ask, worried about finding a babysitter for my daughters.
"Next Monday." Tori answers. "But don't worry about a babysitter. Something tells me that miss Makayla Louise here will be more than thrilled to do that job."
"You know it!" Kayla says. you can tell she's bubbling over with enthusiasm. "Any time!"
Tori and Kayla give me a tour of the rest of the house, including the backyard. They make it quite clear that this is my home, and I should never, ever be scared to ask for a favor, or to have a midnight snack, or do whatever.
I've never felt so comfortable since I got pregnant with the twins almost a year ago. Not that my being pregnant was my idea of a fun time.
I finish unpacking, and sit back on my bed, my mind drifting back to my ex, Albert Wilson. The twins carry his last name, but I was the one who named them, took care of them, held them, was both parents to them. Al left me the day after I told him he was going to be a dad.
I shake my head to clear it, and go get a shower. Hailey starts crying as soon as I'm out, so I throw my clothes on, and rush into the twins' room before she can wake Alexis.
"Hey, baby girl, what's wrong?" I coo, picking her up. I offer her a bottle, but she turns her head away. I check her diaper, but it's dry. Then it hits me: she's going to be sick. Sure enough, she spits up all over herself, and I have to change her.
No sooner do I do that, then Alexis wakes up and starts crying because of a dirty diaper. By the some I get the twins settled, it's eight thirty, and I'm exhausted.
I plug in the baby monitor, and walk back into the bathroom to brush my teeth, wash my face, and remove my contacts. I walk back across the plush carpet to my bed, and fall into it, falling asleep immediately.
I wake up several times, tending to the twins. When I wake up for the sixth time, I know, I just know I won't be able to get back to sleep, so I start playing a game of solitaire. I get about halfway through before my eyelids start to droop, and I have to go back to bed.
I sleep pretty well for the rest of the night. I occasionally wake up, unable to sleep, but that only happens a couple times.
Kayla wakes me up the next morning. Her long, wavy brown hair is pulled back into a high ponytail, and hed blue eyes are sparkling.
"Good morning, sleepyhead." she greets, laughing.
"Morning." I yawn and sit up, rubbing my eyes.
"Mom told me to come and get you. She's made pancakes."
"Awesome." I say, standing up. I go to the twins, check on them, and walk downstairs to the kitchen table.
I quickly scarf down my pancakes just as Hailey starts crying. "I'll get her." Kayla volunteers, hurrying up the stairs. She returns a few minutes later, with a smiling Hailey in her arms.
"Damn girl. You're a magician." I joke, taking my daughter. I feed her, and then go to get Alexis.
Kayla and I leave the twins with Tori, and we go to the mall to back to school shopping. I pick out several pairs of jeans, and some tee shirts, sweatshirts, and that kind of thing. The casual stuff, because, when you're a mom, you have to change multiple times a day.
I put away my clothes, and look out the window, watching the leaves dance through the air between my window, and the window of the house next door.
Then, the window opens, and a teenage boy appears. He looks about my age, and he's staring at me. I quickly duck back into my room, and close the curtains. I've learned the hard way never to trust guys.
A/n: Okay, so was this good? Bad? Ugly? Shitty? Review and let me know. Alrighty, adios amigos!
