Disclaimer: I don't anything IMAA.
Pepper was curious, and she admitted it as well. It was in her blood, which convinced her that she was destined to become a S.H.I.E.D agent.
It got the better of her sometimes. Once, Pepper decided to see what that "suspicious" trench coated man walk into a bakery and was shocked to know that he was a wanted man. If it weren't for Iron Man, she would've definitely been hurt, maybe killed.
Speaking of Iron Man, it was her curiosity that revealed Tony's deep dark secret. But that was a secret she didn't mind having.
Pepper stood by the sidewalk, leaning over the edge to catch sight of a vacant taxi. She wasn't feeling the bus today, and found (to her advantage) change in her purse. Her house wasn't far from where she was, but t was too crowded to walk home.
BUZZ.
She jolted when she felt her phone vibrate inside her pocket. Her purse was too small for her phone, after all the junk she stuffed in it from the free candy sale at Candy Crunch down the street.
Pulling it out of her pocket, Pepper tapped the touchable screen and touched her messages.
It was Tony.
Her heart leapt a little, but she managed to read the text that was underneath his name.
T: HEY.
Hey? That's it? Was that a secret message for something? Was something wrong? Pepper tried thinking of every possible reason of why Tony said 'hey.' Sure it seemed overboard but it might mean something. Right?
P: WHAT'S UP?
A minute later.
T: NOTHING MUCH. JUST GOT HOME. WHERE ARE YOU?P: ON A SIDEWALK WAITING FOR A CAB, HAHA.
Another minute went by before she got a response.
T: DO YOU NEED A RIDE? I WOULD'NT MIND SWINGING BY TO PICK YOU UP.
Oh Pepper wouldn't mind being held by Iron Man, or riding shotgun in Tony's beautifully modified full electric Audi r8. But it would make her seem needy, and she was totally capable of waiting a little longer for a taxi to come then being awkward in Tony's car.
So she quickly shot back a text.
P: I'M GOOD THANKS! :)
Almost immediately.
T: YOU SURE? IT WON'T TAKE ME LONG TO DRIVE DOWN. AND I'M PRETTY SURE YOU'LL ENJOY THE RIDE BETTER THAN IN AN OLD TAXI.P: TEMPTING BUT I'LL BE FINE. THANKS TONY.
Tony responded with another 'you sure', but Pepper quickly said that she just got a taxi. He said that he was heading out for a ride, which Pepper assumed was his daily Iron Man shift, but felt a little pang in her heart for turning down Tony's Audi offer.
Coincidentally, a taxi pulled up right by her, dropping off a passenger. Pepper quickly ran up to it, beating a business man who was also running to the taxi, and hopped into the backseat.
"Afternoon miss. Where can I take you today?" The old man said. He had a gray barrette hanging from his thin white haired head, and round golden spectacles hanging from his nose.
Pepper smiled politely, enjoying the old coffee smell that normally radiated from elderly men, and said,"15th street would be perfect, sir." The cabbie tipped his hat and hit the meter button on the console of his dashboard.
Pepper settled herself in the taxi and pulled out her phone. Tony have it to her for her birthday not so long ago. It wasn't a flip phone, but instead a sleek touch screen made by Tony himself.
She went through the games, looking for something that appealed to her, when she suddenly heard an engine.
Looking up, Pepper thought it was the old taxi breaking down, but the cabbie was still driving, and the front hood wasn't smoking.
What made that noise?
Vrooooooooom.
The mysterious engine revved again, sending goose bumps down Pepper's arms.
"Been a while since I've heard an engine purr." The taxi driver said. He glanced at his rearview mirror, looking for a reaction from Pepper. When he got none, he flicked his glance back out the windshield at the road.
Pepper got out of her seat and twisted around to look out the back window. She saw car drivers looking back at her. "Wait, what did you say? What engine are you talking about?"
The taxi driver, clearly excited to talk to her, said, "Why, that's a bike, miss. A classic, at the sound of that!" He started rambling about the olden days, when he used to drive his own motorcycle around.
Pepper zoned him out immediately, and looked around for the motorcycle. In Manhattan, there was never a chance someone would ride a bike. It was either, risk your life and hope to not get hit by a truck or a car, OR get in a heavier built vehicle and get to your destination.
"-and the war sent me away from DustClinger! Oh I wouldn't leave my baby alone, so I gave it to my wife! Worst mistake of my life, I tell you!" The cabbie continued. Pepper absentmindedly mumbled back a confirmation, just to let him know she was somewhat listening.
Vrooooooom.
Pepper's curiosity began to make her itch. Her hand reached up to scratch her head, which instantly eased her racing mind.
There was something that sparked her curiosity more than anything, and that was a mysterious rider of a motorcycle. She would do anything to look at the face of the rider.
Suddenly, right next to Pepper's window, a man came forward. His bike shined in the light of the sun, and the shadows darkened the motorcycle, making it look like an incredible machine.
The man braked in front of their cab, between two cars. To his right was Pepper's cab, and to his left was another car. Pepper stared at the man, and his bike. Unfortunately, there was a red and black helmet sitting on his head, so it was a little hard to see his face.
The man let go of his handles and stretched back, resting his gloved palms on his thighs. His leather bike jacket stretched and coiled around his lean frame, showing off his muscular frame.
Pepper felt herself blush for some reason.
His bike, however, looked so... so different. It wasn't a standard bike, with the engine being tucked away under the hood. It was a see through chasse, which its interiors gleaming wickedly in the afternoon sun. It had astonishingly sleek black leather as the seat, and red frame wherever there was no see through element.
But Pepper couldn't help but notice the déjà vu color scheme. The interior was gold, and the exterior was red. It reminded her a lot of Iron Man.
Ahead, the stoplight turned green, and suddenly the traffic was moving forward. The rider, also noticing the light, leaned forward into his bike, and wrapped his palms around the handles. He turned his head to Pepper's side, as though scratching his neck, and Pepper caught a glimpse of startling blue eyes.
"Hey, that was super interesting." Pepper said still staring at the mysterious rider. "Could you follow that bike? Er... that rider?"
The cabbie's mouth was open, as he was cut off mid-sentence. He shut his mouth and opened it again, the wrinkles contorting around his face. "It'll cost ya. You're being charged by the meter here, miss." He said tapping a finger to the device on the dashboard.
Pepper remembered that she only had a few bills, but didn't let her distress show on her face. "I got money. Just follow him, and I may tip you."
That sparked the taxi driver's interest. He sped forward, surprising for an elderly man, and followed the motorcycle as it nearly disappeared into the traffic.
Pepper reached behind her and pulled the seatbelt across her body. She clutched onto the seat as the taxi driver sped in and out of lanes, heading towards the next intersection. Pepper swore inwardly, but sucked in her breath as she caught a glimpse of the motorcycle.
The rider made her heart thump. The way his body leaned into each turn, and the expert foot and hand movements, which changed gears, was starting to make Pepper's mouth water.
But still... those blue eyes couldn't have been anyone.
The motorcycle disappeared around a corner, and the cabbie quickly jerked the wheel to follow suit. Pepper was thrown to the right. She wanted the cabbie to take it easy, but at the pace the motorcycle was going, she would rather puke.
"Hold on, miss! Looks like he's makin' another turn!" The cabbie swiveled the steering wheel to the ride, smashing Pepper into her left window. She grunted, and managed to peel herself off the window before sucking in her breath, yet again.
The rider was reaching for his helmet. He threw a worried look back at the taxi, and Pepper realized, too late, what was about to happen.
The helmet was thrown with amazing accuracy at the windshield of the cab. Pepper screamed, and the cabbie cursed as he momentarily lost control. He jerked the wheel left and right, but at the speed they were going, the cab lost grip on the road and swiveled to hit a mailbox.
Pepper's head knocked to the right, thankfully away from the window, and she winced at the huge headache. The driver was gripping his wheel tightly, looking as white as a ghost. "You- you okay?" Pepper asked, squeezing her eyes to blink away the stars.
The cabbie looked at her, furious. "You can leave now." He grumbled to her. Pepper looked at his face, and raised her eyebrows. "You heard me! Get out ya filthy teenager! This must've been one of them dumb games you play. And to think you were going to pay me! OUT!"
Pepper clumsily yanked on her door and stumbled out of the taxi. The front hood was smoking, likely from the engine getting a little bashed. Though there were a few onlookers, most people continued to their destination as though it was normal to see a taxi rammed into a mailbox.
Pepper quickly reached into her purse and pulled out the little cash she had. "Here! I have about thirty bucks. I'm so sorry!" She dumped the money into the cabbie's lab before running off towards the sidewalk.
She turned on her heels, looking for the rider. Pepper cursed. That stupid rider was the cause of all this! Then again, if she hadn't been so curious, she wouldn't of asked the cabbie to pursue the rider anyway.
Vrooooom!
The nerve of that stupid rider! Pepper felt her face go red as she turned, ready to scold the crap out of the motorcyclist. But her words died in her throat.
Tony pulled up to the curb and kicked the stand on his motorcycle in place. He turned and sprinted towards the cab before skidding to a stop before her. "Pepper? I- you-"
Pepper gaped at him. "You were the rider? This is your bike?" She asked astonished. That hot body, and gorgeous eyes belonged to her crush, uh-best friend. Pepper felt herself blush.
Tony turned to his motorcycle and grinned. "I did ask you if you wanted a ride, didn't I?"
"But- you never said you had a motorcycle!"
Tony snorted. "It was supposed to be a surprise, really. This was the bike my dad was working on before he- he died. I finished it up, added some details, which are pretty nice if I say so myself, and took it out today." Tony pushed his hands into his pant pockets.
Pepper tried her best not to stare at the way the leather jacket formed around his arms and chest. "So, what are you doing here?"
"I thought the cab, over there, was following me. I got nervous, thinking it was some of those stupid gangs, but realized the driver was old, a little too late."
"Tony, you threw your helmet at the windshield." Pepper said slowly.
Tony opened his mouth, and then shut it quickly. "Wait, how did you know that I-" His eyes widened. "Oh my god. Were you in the CAB?!" He gripped her shoulders. "You were in the CAB?! PEPPER I COULD'VE KILLED YOU!"
Pepper winced and pulled away. "Yeah, but you didn't. Calm down, all though you did was make that old man very angry."
Tony and Pepper turned to the old man who was mumbling and cursing under his breath at his battered vehicle. Tony blinked and turned to her, "Maybe I should apologize and give him some money for the damage."
Pepper nodded, crossing her arms across her chest. "Maybe that'd be a good idea." She rubbed her arms, suddenly aware of the goose bumps that rose because of the shock of the accident. Tony noticed and looked at her.
"Take my jacket. I'll be right back. In fact, let me give you a ride home." He whipped off his jacket, revealing a mouthwatering black v-neck shirt underneath, and slung it around Pepper's shoulders before rushing off towards the cab.
Pepper blinked before realizing the warmth of Tony's jacket. She smelled in his cologne and before she knew it, she was closing her eyes to enjoy the moment. "Pepper? Oh god, are you okay?" Tony's hands were on her shoulder once more, thinking that she was about to faint.
Her eyes snapped open to meet a pair of blue eyes. "What-? Oh I was just thinking. Sorry." She yawned and stuffed her hands into the sleeves of Tony's biker jacket. It was huge on her, in fact reaching below her thighs.
Tony grinned before looking down at her. "I like that jacket on you. Maybe I should get you one." Pepper blushed and laughed.
"I think I would like that ride right now." She said, eager to get on the motorcycle. She was even bouncing on the balls of her feet in excitement.
Tony laughed and put a hand around her waist. "Well then, let's get going. If it gets too dark it'll be too cold to ride." He led her to his bike and got on first. When he settled in, he turned on the engine and gave it a minute to warm up. Revving the engine, he smiled once it seemed ready. "Alright, hop on." He patted the empty spot behind him, and gave his amazing smile.
Pepper eagerly hopped on and took her seat behind him. She wasn't exactly sure if she should wrap her arms around him, or brace herself my holding onto the seat.
Tony slipped his helmet on, and unclipped an unseen, foldable, helmet from the side of his bike. He handed it back to her as he revved the engine, indicating that he was ready to go.
He put one foot up on the footrest and then glanced down at his waist, and then glanced back to Pepper. "Are you ready?"
Pepper clipped her helmet into place and then stared back at him through the visor. Tony saw her mumble something, and reached back to pull up the visor. Pepper blinked in surprise, and repeated what she had say, "I'm ready, Tony. How—how fast will you go, exactly?"
Tony let loose a laugh. "Pepper, this is a motorcycle. These are meant to go fast." Then he looked down to see her hands gripping the leather seat underneath her. "I was thinking you would hold onto me. It would be a lot safer."
Pepper hesitantly raised her hands to his shoulders, but let her hands linger when Tony shook his head. "You'll fall off. Lower. Wrap your arms around me, trust me." Pepper blushed, and was thankful for her helmet.
She didn't notice Tony's mischievous smile as she scooted forward and wrapped both her arms around his abdomen. She could feel his strong body raise and fall from his breathing.
She had no idea he was that fit.
Pepper could barely adjust herself before Tony gunned the bike, and took off into the street. She squealed and tightened her arms, receiving a gasp from Tony.
But that didn't stop him from laughing out in the thrill and giving more gas to the engine. Pepper opened her eyes hesitantly and saw the setting orange sun from in between the tall skyscrapers.
Tony maneuvered the bike around the traffic, and Pepper felt herself loving the feeling of the wind coursing around her, and the fact that she was so close to Tony.
Without meaning to, she leaned forward and placed her head on Tony's back. She stared at the cars that zoomed by.
Yup, she totally should've asked him for a ride. Pepper closed her eyes and let the ride take her away.
As you can see, I was really into the motorcycle thing. I don't even know why I worked so hard on it, but I suppose I was going for something simple. By the way, don't about the motorcycle; I don't even remember why I thought of it.
Anyway… Today's review topic: Which actor would you date? Or in my case, kidnap?
REVIEW! :D
