Chapter I

K/Combat

The first Mortal Kombat tournament happened in the year 792 A.D. It was supposed to be a tournament showcasing feats of strength and valor. The Elder Gods had other plans. The owner of the tournament was a native of Outworld. His name was Lei Chen. He planned on finding a worthy adversary so he could finally have that defining match. If defeated, he would train the young fighter everything he knew. But then, the Gods interfered. They saw this as an opportunity for the war the fates had foreseen: Armageddon, the end of the world. Mortal Kombat would be a constant battle of life and death for years to come… Lei Chen did not want this. He made a deal with the Elder Gods stating simply this: "If I win the tournament, Mortal Kombat will be mine! You cannot change the rules!" "Fine," said the booming voice of Zeus, "If you win, we will leave your tournament alone. You are a great fighter, but you cannot win a fight against the Elder Gods!" Lei Chen then began recruiting fighters for his "team". King Jerrod was his first choice. Jerrod, King of Edenia, had just given birth to a beautiful baby girl, Kitana. Since Edenia was always peaceful, he could take a break, just this one time. Lao Yung entered the tournament wanting nothing more than peace from the Gods. Kato Jay was a fighter from Zimbabwe who wanted a challenge. Riou Takamura and Yin Long were members of an organization, their intentions unknown. All that was known about the fighter Shang Tsung was that he wanted ownership of the tournament. Abu Dunis was a "sorcerer" from Egypt whose spells were just mere magic tricks and illusions. His fighting skills were the same. His assistant, Afari Martyr, came from a long line of servants and believed he was supposed to serve Abu. Kimchi Yellow was an American who was an extremely racist man against Asians who changed his name to piss them off for his amusement. Three people lost their lives in this tournament: Yin Long was secretly assassinated by Shang Tsung, Abu Dunis was killed by Afari Martyr, and Lei Chen was killed by Shang Tsung. The climatic battle between Lei Chen and Shang Tsung was the most reminiscent battle, because it was the final battle of the tournament. If not for his soul-stealing technique, Shang Tsung would not have gained ownership of the tournament. Unfortunately, Lei Chen is not remembered as a legendary fighter, but just a walled city in Outworld. Lao Yung disappeared after the tournament, and Jerrod went back to Edenia to take care of his family. Since the tournament was long forgotten by mortals, The Elder Gods changed the K in Kombat to a C, thus changing the name from Mortal Kombat to Mortal Combat.
