A/N: An anonymous request. They wanted a drabble, so here it is. Only a one shot.

Keep Up

There she is, walking around in her stockinged feet again, those earphones pumping music into the little world she's built around herself. I lean on the kitchen door, sipping coffee and shaking my head. I don't know how she can do that, just grab the dust mop and twirl around like a lunatic on a sugar high. How does she do it? Huntress by day, housewife by night -or at the very least god awful in the morning- I guess I'll never know.

"Ruby..." No wonder she can't hear me. "Ruby!"

She jumps, practically ripping off those earphones. Heh, I must have surprised her. "Sorry Blake, were you trying to get my attention?"

"Something like that. Do you have any idea what time it is?"

"Er, no?"

As always, she completely lost track of the clock. "It's six in the morning, babe," I say, making my way across the floor. "Maybe you should save that for later. Are you hungry?" A small negative sound, and a sigh later, and I roll my eyes. "Bad hunt?"

"No hunt." Ruby laments. "The board is completely empty."

"Isn't that a good thing?"

She nods, then shakes her head. Rolling her shoulders in that cute little way she does when she's non-committal. "I don't know, maybe?"

"You've been taking jobs ever since graduation. It's like you don't even know how to stop." I lift my brow, considering the truth of my own statement. "Ruby, you can take a break."

"Nope."

"Yeah, actually. You can."

"No, actually. I can't." She parrots.

"You're such a pain in the ass," I say while laughing. "You don't always have to be on the move."

"Did you know that Yang's off tearing ass with Nora?" Ruby asked, a glimmer of something distant in her eyes. "Ren called the other day, told me he thought Nora was bad...Yang's actually kind of worse."

"Serves him right, I told him not to invite Yang along." No one ever listens to me anyway.

"Well, the invitation was for both of you, remember?" Ruby points out, and of course, I nod, because it's true. "He probably thought that you'd keep my sister from going completely berserk."

"That man has entirely too much faith in what passes for pure luck. I'd have an easier time keeping your hand out of the cookie jar, than I'd ever have at keeping Yang at bay."

"That's only because I'm not so addicted to them anymore."

I laugh. "I'd contest that."

Ruby smirks at me. "I don't want cookies right now." She's licking her damn lips, though. I'm done for when she does that.

"Then, what do you want?" I ask dryly. It's a front, she knows it, I know, all of Remnant probably knows it. Screw the damn coffee, I've got my rush right in front of me.

"I think you know," Ruby says, leaning up for an all too quick kiss before heading off towards the bedroom. "You have thirty seconds before I start modifying Crescent Rose."

I leave my coffee on the mantle, hardly touched, forgotten for all that I care as I chase after her. Then again, it's always been that way, hasn't it? If you want to be with Ruby, you have to keep up, that's just the way it is.
