Disclaimer: I don't own Spirited Away
A/N:
Isn't this kinda cool? My pen name is Daffodil Chains and here's a story named Daisy Chains. Wow.
Anyway, this one shot is a sorta April present cos this is my BIRTHDAY MONTH! Hooray for April 11th!
A little girl stood in the middle of a grassy field, rubbing her eyes. "Mommy?" she asked timidly. "Mommy?" she called again, louder this time. "Mommy!" hearing no reply again, the little girl started to cry.
"Hey," the girl turned to see a boy with shoulder length green hair sitting on a rock, waving at her. "What's your name? And why are you crying?"
The five-year-old girl was panicking too much to be thinking of being wary of strangers. "I'm Chihiro. I can't find my mommy. Who are you?"
"Me? I'm the spirit of the Kohaku River."
Chihiro giggled. "That's not a name! That's a place! Mommy and daddy's bringing me there when I'm a bit older!"
At the mention of her parents, Chihiro's face crumpled and fresh tears welled in her eyes. "No! Don't cry!" the young spirit plopped down on the grass beside her and snatched up a handful of daisies. "Boy, I'm in for some trouble. Julda hates anyone pulling up his flowers," he muttered. She must've accidentally taken the train at Eta.
"Look," the spirit used his thumbnail to pierce a small hole at the almost-end of the daisy stem. He threaded another daisy onto it and repeated the process until he had a tiara of sorts. "There," he said, placing the wreath of daisies onto Chihiro's head.
Chihiro rubbed her nose and her eyes with the back of her hand, and peered upwards, her eyes crossing, at her new crown. She giggled again. "Teach me!"
The spirit of the Kohaku River looked at Chihiro, who was fast asleep. He ruffled her hair playfully and carried her through a small tunnel. "Well, the Eta train should be arriving," he said to himself.
When the train arrived he boarded it and arrived at the Human World. He placed Chihiro carefully on the station bench and slipped back onto the Eta train.
"Chihiro!" Chihiro blinked sleep from her eyes and saw her mom. "Chihiro! We were so worried about you! Don't ever do that to us again."
"Thank you," Chihiro's father said to a station guard. "For finding Chihiro."
Chihiro pouted. "He didn't find me! The spirit of the Kohaku River did!"
Chihiro's mother shook her head. "I'm sorry, sir. She's just a little muddled." She turned to Chihiro. "Now, Chihiro, don't be rude. Tell the Mister here thank you."
"No! Look! The spirit taught me to make daisy chains!" Chihiro grabbed wildly at her hair, but the daisy chain tiara wasn't there.
"Wow, your little girl has a large imagination!" the station guard chuckled and walked away.
And just a few weeks later, the memory of the spirit had disappeared from the five-year-old's memory. Until, of course, she visited the Kohaku River and dropped her shoe into it… but that's another story.
