None of us are ever born into greatness, sometimes the most normal and average person is the one that will either change the world in some way, or will start a business of their own design and turn it into a massively successful company. But every so often an individual comes along who seeks to do both, to make their name and place in history as one of the greats, and while some would think to try and achieve this through means of power or influence, there are those who choose to take a far less conventional route. This is exactly how two men by the names of Henry Emily and William Afton came to not only be business partners but life long friends as well, originally meeting each other when they were in high school both young men found they had a great deal of similar interests, which what got their friendship started. Yet as they continued to talk and learn more about the other it was almost frightening at how much the two had in common, both were very interested in science fiction and the idea of artificial intelligence which would lead them to discuss their ideas on how it could be made a reality.
From that moment onward the two continued to discuss their ideas, their plans for the future, and how they would go about obtaining them, which as one could imagine strengthened the bond between the both of them to where they were nigh inseparable. And while they did in fact have a lot in common they were still two very different people who complimented the other, with Henry being a very proper gentleman who had a knack for business and economics, to William who was a very expressive person and a master of engineering, there was nothing the two when combined could not accomplish. This is how as time went on the two of them came to start a company together by the name of "Fazbear Entertainment", which as the name implied was a company that was entirely focused on bringing joy and wonder to people everywhere. But while on the surface the world saw a simple family oriented business that wouldn't do much in the grand scheme of things, in reality it was the beginning of both men's venture in the unknown that was their greatest dream to make real, artificial intelligence.
For the first few years after their company was founded the two of them had but a handful of locations to use for their experiments and tinkering, and while none of the patrons at their establishments were ever in any danger whatsoever, they did provide a lot of useful information that furthered their research. Starting with but basic level intelligence that they put into the animatronics that entertained the patrons, they noticed that the animatronics were able to recognize certain reoccurring emotions and actions, which they would then respond to in different ways depending on the situation. Feeling a great deal of pride and excitement over this accomplishment they would work nonstop to increase the potential for thought within their creations, slowly but surely they evolved the AI of their design to be capable of free speech and to even remember things like returning customers or past conversations and interactions. However, as they continued to improve it's capabilities they soon realized a small problem, that if handled improperly could lead to a great deal of issues.
As the AI was continuously made smarter and more like a real person, the more likely it was to develop the ability to feel true emotion and have free thought that was equal to their own. And while this is exactly what they both were hoping for they realized that if they placed it within the animatronics, there could be a possible outcome in which the AI considered itself to be a slave or simply a tool, and that it's intelligence and free will didn't matter so long as it did as it was told. This is why as they grew closer and closer to making true artificial sentience, that they made the decision to no longer place it within the animatronics but instead in a vessel that would allow them to ensure the safety of themselves, the patrons, and the AI. This in turn also allowed them a better control of what the AI was exposed to as well as what they could teach it, for having it in a more controlled environment would lessen the chances of it learning something that it either wasn't ready for, or that it shouldn't know to begin with.
But in order to continue their research they would still need to keep it within one of their businesses as to ensure it's safety and it's secrecy, but since their plans from this point onward would require it to be watched at all times to make certain it wouldn't get into any trouble, they now needed to hire a night guard. And so, for the first time since they started their company and opened to doors to all of their venues, they had to place a "Help Wanted" ad in the paper in the hopes they would find someone they deemed suitable for such a task. Yet as it turns out, finding someone that they could trust with such an important responsibility through the paper, was about as easy as one would imagine.
"Thank you so much for coming in!" William exclaimed as he shook the hand of a teenager who came to apply for the job "We will let you know if you got the job very soon, again thank you for coming and please stay to enjoy some of the food and games!" He offered with a smile,
Finishing the handshake and watching them leave the office, once they were gone William let out a heavy sigh before he fell down onto the small couch that rested against the wall.
"WHY IS THIS SO DIFFICULT?!" He shouted as he pressed his hands against his face, slowly dragging them downward as he did "I mean, is it REALLY this hard to find a suitable night guard?!" He questioned.
"Oh come now William, you knew as well as I did that this wouldn't be easy." Henry told him from behind his desk "We're looking for someone that we can trust, that person isn't just going to walk in off the street." He added.
"Yes yes I KNOW that Henry, but for the love of all that is holy we've been at this for DAYS." William replied with another sigh "There has to be SOMEONE in this city who we can rely on!"
"If you know who they are then I suggest you go and fetch them." Henry said simply as he focused back on the newspaper he was reading "Because as it stands we've so far interviewed nearly fifty people for this position, and each of them is in no way qualified for the task at hand."
"I'm aware of that Henry." William assured as he stared up at the ceiling "But does everyone have to be so...so...unsavory?" He asked with a slight tinge of disgust on his face "I mean, so far despite the number of people who've come to apply for the position we've essentially seen only three types of people, teenagers who are looking for an easy job where they can goof off on their phones, people who are looking for free food and beverages, and people that while on the surface SEEM normal are actually complete loons underneath..." He listed, counting them on his fingers.
"That fellow earlier was rather strange." Henry agreed causing the other to shoot him a glare.
"STRANGE?! THE MAN TOLD US ABOUT HIS DOLL COLLECTION!" William shouted as he threw his hands up into the air "WHAT MADE IT WORSE WAS THAT HE SEEMED MORE INTERESTED IN WHAT THE DOLLS WORE THAN THE DOLLS THEMSELVES!" He shouted some more before letting his arms fall back to his sides "God...I need a break from this..." He admitted with a third sigh following after.
"Well unfortunately we still have one applicant for today, though he hasn't arrived yet." Henry said.
"Oh really? let me guess, he's some average looking business man but underneath he has an absurd obsession with tiny dogs who can dance the macarena?" William questioned sarcastically.
"...That...was oddly specific." Henry said as he straightened out his newspaper "But no, to be honest he might be the only normal applicant we've had all week." Henry admitted.
"Then tell me about him, because honestly I could use a bit of normalcy right now..." William sighed yet again as he rested an arm on his forehead.
"Very well, his name is Michael Schmidt though he prefers to be called Mike, he stands at six foot six exactly with short blonde hair and bright blue eyes, he has a college education with a degree in creative arts, though he did have a great deal of interest in human psychology and teaching, so far he's only worked a few jobs in his life all of which he did while attending high school and college, however since leaving college he's had a hard time finding steady employment and has relied on commissions for his skills as an artist to pay his rent and buy food." Henry explained.
"...How...how do you know all of that?" William asked as he sat up, genuinely curious.
"Simple, when he called about the job he asked me if it would be alright to send his resume in advance so we could look it over, unfortunately he wasn't able to come earlier today as he had another interview scheduled for another job." Henry answered "To be honest, if he get's accepted by that other job I think we may have just lost our best bet at a night guard." He admitted.
"You're damn right we have!" William exclaimed as he got to his feet "This man sounds like the answer to our prayers, we HAVE to get him!"
"But what if he's already been given the other job?" Henry asked with a raised brow.
"Then we will triple whatever it is they're paying him! I am NOT sitting through another FIVE days of lunatics and hoodlums, I simply won't do it!" William protested with a stomp of his foot.
"...Hoodlums, really?" Henry asked.
"Yes hoodlums, what's wrong with that?" William questioned.
"Nothing, I just thought I was supposed to be the proper British gentleman between the two of us." Henry replied with a slight smirk "Planning on copying me hm?" He inquired.
"Oh please, while I do love your accent I'd never want to copy you, your sense of fashion is so boring." William told him.
"This coming from a man who not only wears bright purple suits but is also an albino?" Henry questioned.
"Hey! Purple is a regal color and my silver hair is as breathtaking as the most beautifully intricate spider webs woven by the most skilled of their kind!" William replied as he turned around "Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to the kitchen." He said as he walked out.
"Why are you going to the kitchen?" Henry asked.
"To have the chefs make a pizza for our new night guard, if we can't win him with money we will win him with fine dining!" William replied as he walked away.
Rolling his eyes at partner's idea of a bribe Henry went back to reading his paper, admittedly just as excited for their hopefully new night guard to arrive for his interview.
