Nikki considered for a moment, and then decided to take up Jack's father's offer of dinner. "Okay, why not?"
Jack smiled at this-he hadn't spent enough time with her recently.
Nikki went to get her coat and bag. "I'm off, see you two tomorrow."
Thomas smiled at her. "See you."
"Bye Nikki." Beamed Clarissa. "Enjoy yourself with Jack and his dad."
"I will, thanks." The other woman replied, and headed off with the two Hodgsons.
Jack missed spending time with his best pal-she was off in her own little world too often.
He loved her, a lot-he'd chatted to his father quite a lot about her and it showed. However, she was with Matt.
Unbeknownst to him, Matt had ended it with Nikki. He had decided that they weren't going to work, which she'd suspected for a while.
The little group ended up in a local pub, Jack and Nikki sat down at a table whilst the elder Hodgson got the drinks in.
"So... How are you?" Jack asked his pal.
"Umm." Nikki shuffled her feet. "Actually, Matt and I ended things. He decided that we weren't going to work." She shifted her gaze to meet his own. "Actually, I saw it coming."
"Oh.." He put his right hand on her shoulder, rubbing gently. "I'm sorry."
Conor saw this, and paused for a moment. The pair of them were meant to bed-he knew that. They just needed to figure it out for themselves.
He brought the drinks over-A Guinness for himself, a beer for Jack and Nikki had opted for a dry white wine.
They made small talk, and after a time ordered some food.
"I'm going out for a smoke." Said Conor, and exited the pub.
Nikki sipped her wine. "Jack?"
"Yeah?"
"I think... I think that I wanted it to end with Matt because we both knew that something was between me and you."
"What?" He was hardly able to believe his ears.
"Yes. I do." The blonde said, feeling determined. "You're the love of my life Jack."
"Well, I'm bloody glad that you said that Nikki because to be frank I feel the same way. It didn't feel right, you being with that American prick." He replied.
"Hey!"
"No, it's true. I wanted you-all of you. I still do. I want your bad days, your good, and the in-betweens." Jack confessed.
"I do too." She grinned. "You're my best friend, and the person I want to spend the rest of my life with."
"Same." He replied, and they kissed.
Conor, who was just coming back into the pub, smiled at this. "Finally, they've worked it out for themselves." He said happily.
