A/N: I thought of this a while back. It's basically Gibbs remember Jenny like he had Kate, but in a COMPLETELY different way. So… yeah. Please R&R!!!

Jethro sighed as he lay down in his bed. He wasn't in the mood for working on his boat, even though he was that close to finishing it.

She was gone. He couldn't believe it, but the facts were right there in front of him; she was gone forever, just like Shannon and Kelly. He turned over onto his other side, clinging to his pillow as tears forced their way into his eyes.

"Jethro," her voice came from behind him. "Don't cry."

He knew he was hallucinating. He had done that after Kate's death, too. It didn't hurt to talk to her, though. He didn't turn around to face her. "Why didn't you tell me?"

Her voice was trembling, and he felt her breath on his back. "I… I don't know why. I didn't want to see you get hurt. I didn't want you to die."

"But you did."

There was a pause. "Yeah, I did. I screwed up, Jethro. Big time. And there's no coming back from this." Her arm snaked its way around his waist from behind. He could sense her lips lingering at the back of his neck. "I made a lot of mistakes in my lifetime."

Jethro carefully turned around in his bed to face her, finally taking a good look at her. She was underneath the sheets with him, her long, dark red hair splayed out across the pillow. It looked the same as when she first came to NCIS as the new director. Her eyes were their usually emerald green. But something was off. Her skin was so much more paler. It was a ghostly pale. Then again, she was a ghost, so what was to be expected?

"I never should've left," she whispered, her hand moving to his cheek. "I didn't want to. Deep inside, I knew I shouldn't, but I did, even though I still loved you."

"I loved you, too," Jethro said. "Why did you leave? And don't tell me it was your five-star plan, because there was another reason… wasn't there?"

Jenny nodded. "I was scared. I knew we'd gone in too far with our relationship. I didn't know what to do. I panicked!"

Jethro leaned in and kissed her forehead. "You have to take chances in relationships."

Her eyes started glistening with tears. "I know that now." Tears started streaming down her cheeks. "I wish I'd known it then."

"Why are you crying?" Jethro asked. "You're the one that's dead."

"Exactly!" Jenny said. "I never got to do the things I wanted to do! I promised Abby I would go and get a tattoo with her, but I never did!"

"You? Tattoo?" Jethro snorted. "You couldn't even handle half of a tattoo!"

"I still have that," Jenny said, smiling.

"So do I," Jethro replied, chuckling. They lay there in silence for the next few minutes. "I'm really going to miss you, Jen." A tear forced its way out of his eye, crawling down his cheek. He scooted closer to her, kissing her softly.

When they drew apart, Jenny turned around and lay her back against Jethro's chest, her head resting against the pillow he was using. His arm worked its way around her waist, pulling her closer. He buried his face in her neck as he cried, for her, for her death, for all that could've been.

He finally fell asleep at around midnight. Jenny stayed in his arms, as asleep as a ghost could get.

They were together again, but not for the reasons they both had longed for.

Jenny disappeared as the sunlight filtered through the curtains on Jethro's bedroom window.
