A happy ending to the Pemberley Arc (just cuz I needed one)
Lizzie's phone was ringing, it was Jane, but she decided this once, she would ignore her sister. Under the circumstances, she thinks Jane would understand. She puts her phone away and looks up to see an inquisitive look on Darcy's face. She's standing in his office doorway kind of awkwardly, knowing she needs to say how she feels but not sure how to breach the subject.
"Did you need something, Lizzie?" He asks. She nods and enters a little farther into the room. She looks down at her feet but realizes what she's doing and looks back up at him. Their eyes meet and she smiles a little. He still looks confused and she can see the sadness in him. She wants nothing more than to make that look disappear, but she has no idea what to say.
"I just… I needed to tell you something." He nods slowly as if to say 'go on.' She decides it's stupid to do this, what's the worst that could happen?
"I love you." Just like that it was out and there was no going back. She's looking at him so she sees all the emotions cross his face. His eyes get comically wide and his mouth opens and closes a couple times like a fish, he closes his mouth and his eyes take on a calmer look and he smiles, more like grins like an idiot, up at Lizzie. She just stands there, transfixed on that grin and knowing she is mirroring it on her own lips.
He gets up out of his chair and starts walking toward her at the same time she starts walking toward him. They meet in the middle of the room and just stare at each other for a little while. She reaches up and puts a hand on his cheek and he wraps his arms around her bringing her closer to him and bending down to kiss her. As this is their first sober kiss (for her anyway) she tries to remember everything, the way his hands move up her back and the way his tongue feels and his soft lips on hers. Her hands have found their way into his hair of their own accord and he picks her up slightly so there's not such a height difference. They pull apart only to breathe and he sets her down again smiling like he is the happiest person in the world.
"Well FINALLY!" They hear Gigi say at the door. Darcy looks up surprised and Lizzie looks around, she disentangles herself from his harms and turns to start walking towards the door. Gigi is looking at her grinning like the cat that ate the canary and Lizzie can't help but to grin back. She reaches the door, "Bye, Gigi," she says as she closes the door on the younger girls' still smiling face. She turns back to Darcy in time to see relief cross his face.
"I thought you were going to leave, embarrassed by having been seen with me," he says. She looks up at him, the smile leaving her face. "I know I've hurt you so bad in the past, and I am so sorry. I don't regret anything in my life more than what I did to you, but I will never hurt you again. I love you, that will never end, and I will never be embarrassed by you." She walks up to him and puts her arms around him and lays her head on his chest as he wraps his arms around her. They stand like that for a while until she can no longer ignore her still ringing phone.
