Hey guys, just a quick one shot from Rivers point of view about when ten meets her for the first time, enjoy! :)

Disclaimer: once again, i do not own doctor who, or the characters.. sadly.

Who are you?

When she saw him, that man, she couldn't believe it was really him. Pain floored her stomach, her doctor was gone. He had been replaced with that man. That man with those hazel chocolate brown eyes that were so full of pain, and hope and anger. That man with that blue suit and the long brown overcoat. That man with the black classes that he didn't really need and those cream converse. That man that was The Doctor... but he wasn't hers.

It was excruciatingly hard. Meeting a man you knew everything about and he didn't even know you existed. Meeting the man you were in love with before he was in love with you- before he even knew you. Now she knew how he felt all those years ago. When she was just a child and he was so very old.

She was in love with a man, but it wasn't him. Not yet. She watched him running about, trying to save the day with no dampers, no bow tie, no clicking of his fingers. It was weird, watching a stranger you knew more about than anything in the world, and yet he wasn't that man at all.

She knew it was over. The moment she looked into those untrusting eyes that questioned who she was. It was so complicated. So timey wimey. It wasn't him, not her doctor. She knew that man was gone forever. Now all that was left was this man – this man who didn't know her, didn't trust her. And she had to act like everything was okay. Even though it wasn't. Not at all.

Who was he? She pondered as he asked her just who she was. He should know her. She didn't like this.

Talking to him was strange, she wanted to talk like they used to, when he was older. Used to laugh and joke about all the adventures they had shared. But as she grew older, she saw him getting younger. She knew that time was running out. Each time they met, his eyes grew younger and less trusting. He knew less and less. But now he knew nothing, and she was a shadow and her laughter was hollow. Wishing it could be like it used to. But it was too late; there was nothing of her Doctor left. He was just beginning. And as much as she wished it wasn't him there, wished it was her Doctor; she knew this day would have to come, because he had all of that to come. Him and her. Time and space. Running. And she wouldn't change anything, not for anyone.

She had to whisper in his ear, the same word he had whispered to her only nights before. She patted her pocket where his screwdriver- her Doctors- was. That must be why he gave it to her, she thought.

The damned man won't let me forget him.

She laughed in her head.

"Not those times. Not one line! Don't you dare! It's okay. It's okay, it's not over for you. You'll see me again. You've got all of that to come. You and me, time and space. You watch us run!"

The young man looked at her, chained up, confused, angry and worried, 'River you know my name. You whispered my name in my ear. There's only one way I would tell anyone my name. There's only one time I could.'

'Hush now.', she whispered, her throat dry, her eyes wet with tears and her heart heavy with the pain. She took one last glance at him, The Doctor. The man who had it all to come. An image of her Doctor flashed in her head. She held the power cables up, inches from touching. She smiled sadly.

'Spoilers.'

It had begun.
