For all of you who followed Confronting The Past and waited for this story here it is! So, as promised here we have the first chapter of the beginning of Selene, I decided the story takes place in the year 2007, when Selene is 25 years old and Leon is 30. Well I hope you readers enjoy this chapter!

Disclaimer: I don't own any of the original characters from the Resident Evil franchise, excluding some characters of my own creation and the story.

*This story is going through a major polishing stage, I had written this so long ago that I feel it needs to be rewritten and corrected, so if you guys get update emails about this it is because it is being reworked! Much of the elements will stay the same but I will enhance details among other things. Also I plan to update the story and finish it!*

Edited: As of August, 2018

The speed that a motorcycle can achieve is impressive. The roaring of not only the engine but of the wind even with a helmet covering me was still exhilarating. My bike, always the one to get me to the agency with perfect timing.

I arrived at my usual spot in the lot, near the elevator. I took off my helmet exposing my long ink-dark hair. I ran my hands through my hair a couple of times, feeling for any knots with my fingertips until it was tidy enough. I locked my bike with a chain and unstrapped my messenger bag from the bike to strap it onto myself. I was well aware that there was a group of guys in the lot, their usual conversation and attention derailing because of their fixation on me.

I was use to this kind of attention by now, unnerved I continued on my way to the elevator when someone intercepted my entrance, "Hey Selene, you're looking beautiful today." A coworker of mine by the name of Adrian Carson smiled as he flattered me. Every day he showered me with compliments, words he considered to be flattery. Although some days these words would come across as funny but other times they would be, for lack of a better word: creepy.

It was a fine Monday morning and I didn't want to begin the week already annoyed but it couldn't be helped. "A real compliment would be that I always look good and that today is no exception, Adrian." The elevator beeped behind him. "If you don't mind," I said strutting past him, "I have work to do so; maybe I'll catch you later." I never hid my disdain for his attempts but nevertheless I did my best not to completely put him off as we did see each other in the office and I don't really want to antagonize anyone who I worked with on a day to day basis. So, I winked at him and waved to the guys in the lot who all responded a cheery salute of their own before the elevator door sealed me off from them.

The elevator music was calming and the ride up was lonely as opposed to when the door beeped open again.

The office was brimming with chatter all around. A couple of eyes shot my way, again mostly the male agents hanging around the lounge were the ones to stare but I continued on my way, the documents on my office table were a priority.

After several turns left and right I reached my office but as I opened the door, the Chief of Security was sitting in my chair studying a snow globe I had brought back from Russia when I had gone on a previous mission.

I didn't let his sudden presence startle me, "what can I do for you Chief?" I said as politely as I could. I postponed looking at him by slinging my bag and jacket on a hanger I had. I would do just about anything rather than deal with his arrogant self but that was all I was able to do to stall this conversation, I looked back at him.

He smiled, though it was not altogether friendly. "Ms. Blackwell a very important matter has reached us, if you can find it in your busy schedule to come to my office in a few minutes to receive further instructions." He glared at the paperwork on my desk but said nothing more as he left. Due to his tone it felt more as if I was in trouble rather than chosen to receive a mission. As far as I could remember I hadn't done anything wrong. As I thought about it some more, what surprised me the most was seeing him in my office, he usually never leaves his. Maybe he was finally going to fire me that jerk, another thing to add to this Monday morning.

I couldn't look at my paper work as I had these thoughts circling and opted to get a cup of coffee knowing that the dark nectar managed to put me at ease. I left my office to go to the coffee machine back in the lounge area. The espresso machine was brewing and I managed to get a fresh cup of coffee; taking a small sip and almost instantly my fears subsided.

I stared at the clock for a while trying to judge when a few minutes had passed before heading to the Chief of Security's office. Believing enough time had passed I decided to head to his domain, the large room at the end of the office corridors. I took a deep breath asking God for all the patience in the world and then knocked on the door, "You may enter," Chief Derek C. Simmons murmured.

I let myself in and sat down in a chair across from him. He didn't look up at me and continued to scribble things into his notebook; from the angle I was at, I couldn't make out anything he was writing. Some time passed and he still said nothing, I couldn't help but break the stale air, "so what are we waiting for?" I tried to mask my irritation but again I'm sure it shined through.

"I'm sending you on a mission, the briefing documents should be here any moment." He said still writing, he didn't make eye contact at all nor did he flinch at my tone. I rolled my eyes, thinking back on how I should have taken longer to drink my coffee, how it would have saved me this eternal wait. This man was unbearable ever since I met him I knew all the wires in his upper level were screwed up; he had this sort of strange personality, like he was hiding something.

Finally the door to his office opened, breaking the silence in the room, a stern-looking woman entered and took seat beside me.

"Please excuse the delay Mr. Simmons and Agent Blackwell." She settled a couple of folders on the table and handed some to me. The first thing I noticed about her was her all grey attire which gave away her position as a field supporter.

"No worries honestly, I just love waiting in an un-decorative and lifeless office." I scoffed and smirked slightly at Simmons. He chortled at my words but it was devoid of humor.

"The wait wasn't an issue Ms. Hunnigan, I understand you must have ushered a pile of documentation on such short notice but I'm glad to see you finished it." That was a jab at me and the insinuation had me rolling my eyes. "That aside I'm sure you two haven't met yet. This institution is quite large."

Hunnigan shook her head, "you are right about that." She turned to face me and stretched her hand out and I did as well.

"Well Agent Blackwell, this is one of our head of Field Supporters, Ingrid Hunnigan. Ms. Hunnigan this is our rising star," He mocked, "Agent Selene Renée Blackwell." We shook hands and turned our attention back to him. I continued to look at Hunnigan from the corner of my eye as Derek spoke. My assigned support was always Mariah Lu, wonder why they changed her? This is strange, perhaps the situation is far more dire than I presumed. He had said Hunnigan was the head of support, I'll ask later.

"Alright Ms. Blackwell…" I heard Ingrid clear her throat.

"Selene," I Interjected, Ms. Blackwell makes me sound old, I'm only 25 for Pete's sake.

She adjusted her glasses and then continued to speak, "Selene we need you to go to the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and act as the bodyguard of the Spanish Ambassador Alfonso Navarra's five year old daughter Abella Navarra."

"There's a bigger purpose behind babysitting a five year old right?" I said raising my eyebrow; babysitting was already serious by itself.

"In fact there have been very interesting phone calls that have been recorded between the Ambassador and someone else." Ingrid said looking at the paperwork.

"I see, so that's where I come in then?" Sounds real shady but there must be more to it, the agency wouldn't overact for this kind of thing.

"Yes, you're personifying a bodyguard, this will help you infiltrate with ease. Leaving you in a position that will enable you to carry a smooth investigation." She said confidently.

I nodded agreeing with her words, "easy enough, so when do I leave?"

"In three days." Hunnigan stated. I looked at her surprised, three days, that's pretty rushed. There must be something big going on with the Ambassador like I thought. Again I nodded in response.

"Is that all?" I questioned, se had given me a pretty big stack of papers and I'd rather look at them now, their seemed to be quite a lot of things that I had to memorize.

"One last thing, how's your Portuguese?" Hunnigan questioned looking up at me.

"Ainda é muito bom, embora eu não a praticam, muito obrigado por perguntar (It's still very good even though I don't practice it much, thank you for asking.)" Hunnigan nodded in approval. "Anything else?"

"Yes one last detail, if anything goes wrong with this mission an agent will be put in town within your reach, should you need him." Simmons lips curled at her words and I knew that it was his idea to partner me up. He knew too well that I liked working alone and that this was an offense to my person.

"Thanks but I don't think that's necessary." I said through gritted teeth. The missions assigned to me had always been like this, I was sent to retrieve information. There was never need for anyone else, I was good enough.

"It's just a precaution." Hunnigan mumbled.

I inhaled sharply, "Fine, but who is it?" They were insisting on this so all I could hope for was anyone but Adrian!

"It's Agent Leon S. Kennedy." At first the name didn't ring a bell until it did and her words took me aback but in a good way.

"Why?" I questioned the realization of who they were pairing me up with began to settle.

"He's familiar with the area and has a set of required skills for this mission and now you may go," Simmons said, already going back to whatever he was doing. From the way he spoke it also sounded like the matter of partnership and conditions was closed, I had no say.

I got up and went through the door but the door didn't close completely so I turned to see Hunnigan was tailing me. I stopped but she gestured me forward so I continued to walk to my office.

After walking through a couple of crowded hallways we reached a set of lined up offices, mine was the third on the right and I was always happy to see my name on the silver plaque next to the door: Selene Renée Blackwell, USSS . I gestured her inside first and then I walked in and sat in the head chair while Hunnigan sat across from me.

"Here are the rest of the briefing documents, please go over them carefully." She divided another large stack of folders from her own and handed them to me. "If you have any further questions or something comes up don't hesitate to ask me."

"Don't worry I will." I said seriously, already eyeing some names and locations. Though the questions that I had in the room became present again, "Hunnigan just a quick question if I may," she had already stood but then took a seat once more.

"Go ahead." She adjusted her glasses.

"Why were you assigned to me, I'm not complaining or anything I'm just curious as to why things were decided this way." Again something had me suspicious of this entire scenario.

"Well, I'm not sure myself; Mr. Simmons said it would be far more convenient that I be the one to track your progress."

"Fair enough." She seemed just as in the dark as me.

"Well, if that's all." She stood up but before she left she spoke, "Your work as a field agent Selene is very admirable, so I have no doubt this mission will go smoothly."

"That's all an agent could ever hope for, no extra problems." I smiled sincerely. She smiled back and left.

I was left alone once more, I sat their rubbing the bridge of my nose trying to pacify the throbbing headache that was beginning to enrapture my head while I stared at the stack of files, better start now. "No one's gonna read it for me." I took the first of the files, and started to read them over carefully.

So here we have the culmination of the first chapter, I hope you all liked it. There's just a few things that I'd like to clarify:

Simmons is chief of security even though there is no exact proof that he was chief during this period of time but for the sake of this story we'll make it so. Also much like Sherry was in RE6, Selene answers to Simmons and then to the agency for this missions which explains why Leon never met Simmons in person until years later. Simmons as we all know liked to play behind the scenes. Hunnigan as well kept quiet on the issue.

Okay that was a lot of explaining but I hope I made sense :D

Also since the mission is in Brazil there will be some sentences in Portuguese but will have the translation in English inside parenthesis and in bold, to keep the originality and feel of the story through Selene's P.O.V. Although sometimes the Portuguese language will be represented with bold words in English so it doesn't become a hassle to you readers. Unless you guys prefer otherwise

Just reminding you readers that this is the prequel to Confronting The Past

I hope this was to your liking and thanks for reading and until next update! :D
