Lion-o was a happy little prince. He had a mother, a father and brother. He was about five years old and his brother was almost nine. His brother Tygra was adopted when he was a four year old child before Lion-o was born. Tygra and Lion-o often competed for attention but they had a strong bond as brothers.

Today he was playing outside in the town square. He was sure he heard something and a saw shadow streak past. It was a skinny shadow. Lion-o decided to follow the shadow. He followed it into an alley. His brother followed him. Lion-o saw a small snarf kitten it had a rope tangled around it's snout. "Poor little thing, it's so skinny and dirty," Lion-o said.

"Yeah it is," Tygra said.

Lion-o jumped up in surprise. "Tygra you startled me." Lion-o said.

"Sorry little brother," Tygra said.

Lion-o slowly approached the snarf kitten and picked it up. It squirmed around. "I see I'm not hurt you," Lion-o said. The kitten scratched him. "Ouch!" he said. "See told you," he said.

The snarf kitten looked at him. "I just want to help you." Lion-o said. The kitten looked at him again. "I bet you would like something eat wouldn't you?" he asked. The kitten nodded and purred. "Okay sit in my lap I'll get that thing off you." he said. He got to work on it.

"Be careful Lion-o it looks tight." Tygra said.

"Good grief it is," Lion-o said. "Who would do such a heartless thing?" he said.

Once it was off Lion-o gave the kitten the crackers he kept in his pocket. The little snarf ate it all up. "Boy it is hungry," Tygra said.

"I wonder what mom and dad would say if we bring it home," Lion-o said.

"I don't know we have to wait and see," Tygra said.

Lion-o picked up the kitten. One of the cats in the nearby told them that this snarf kitten was abandoned. Lion-o became very angry. "Who would do that to baby snarf?" Lion-o asked.

"If I find that cat I will teach him a lesson he won't forget." Tygra said.

Lion-o and Tygra took it home and showed it to their parents. "Mom, Dad this poor little snarf was abandoned and it a rope tangled around it's snout and that is why it is so skinny." Lion-o said.

"Oh the poor little thing," Leonara said.

"Well we better give him a name," Claudius said.

"We can keep it?" Lion-o asked.

"Of course you two showed responsibility by taking the rope of and bringing it here to be tended too." Claudius said.

"It was Lion-o who did it, I think it should be his pet." Tygra said.

"Okay but Tygra you have to help." Claudius said.

The servants brought a bowl of food for the little snarf kitten and it started eating. "Boy it sure is hungry." Leonara said.

"He sure is, look at him go." Tygra said.

After they finished feeding him Lion-o and Tygra gave Snarf a bath. Lion-o decided to call him Snarf because it was what he answered to. Snarf would climb into Lion-o's bed and curl up and fall asleep.

After that day Snarf became Lion-o's trusty and loyal pet.
