For Spencer Reid, hating someone was next to impossible. His brain worked too fast for it to be able to have and keep a grudge. According to him, his dictionary had every word but hate, and he used every word besides it. But when it came to Special Agent Emily Prentiss, it was as easy as pie. Just over a year before the brunette agent had joined their team in the BAU, Reid had knocked up the courage to ask the beautifully stunning JJ out on a date to a football match, thanks to mentor Jason Gideon. Reluctantly she agreed, silently telling herself she had to tell him she was gay. When Reid had been kidnapped and JJ nearly ravaged to death by dogs, they came out relatively fine, physically and emotionally. It might have an impact later but they had been given time if they needed it with a therapist.
On the first day back for Reid after a week off, he stumbled into JJ's office ready to ask her out again even though they never really took off, only to see JJ leaning against her desk, Emily standing between her legs with hand on either side of JJ firmly on the over piled desk, lips lightly touching. They had sprung apart as soon as the door opened, Reid standing awkwardly with a hand up, open-mouthed ready to ask, but it looks like Prentiss had been him to it. You see, that is how the major BAU team found out about what was sort of going on. Reid told Morgan when Garcia's burning hunk of man flesh asked how it went, who then blabbed to the Computer Queen herself who in turn 'accidentally' let it slip in front of Gideon and Hotch.
That's why Reid hated Emily Prentiss. She had what he was badly longing after, what he knew he couldn't have. Spencer Reid hated Emily Prentiss; every time she touched stunningly beautiful JJ, whether it be her arm or her back or even a gentle pat on the leg, she made the blonde smile. They only time she truly smiled, she smiled for Emily and no one else.
