I watched in helpless horror and pain as Jean slowly disintegrated the love of my life.

We had met as college students. I immediately fell in love with his dark eyes and chestnut hair. The day the war ended and I was freed from the Nazi Concentration Camp was what I once thought was the greatest day of my life. It changed when I told Charlies about my powers and he accepted me, then told me he had his own powers and that he loved me. I thought we'd be together until we died, yet that changed too. We shared many of the same dreams, but it didn't take long for me to see the true nature of mankind and that we were going about the approach all wrong. Charles didn't believe it. He believed that violence wasn't the answer. How foolish he was.

That was the beginning of the end for us. One of our fights had become so intense that to this day I swore I saw red. It was the same fight I accidentally paralyzed Charles in. It was one of the few things I regretted. I never forgave myself, but Charles did. He was the center of my regrets.

I called Jean's name and tried to reason with her. As opposite as we were in our dealings, Charles didn't deserve to die. When all items in the house slowed, I knew she was gathering her powers for a final strike.

"Charles!"

My heart shattered as he completely vanished. She would pay for this...

I got up and walked to her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders to guide her. "Come my dear."

...After she served her purpose.
