Lore of the Dance

"I'll live in you if you'll live in Me - I am the Lord of the Dance, said He!" - 'Lord of the Dance', Sydney Carter

Jimmy had loved dancing ever since he'd been a small boy watching and copying the old black and white classics on TV. What he'd lacked in ability he'd more than made up for in enthusiasm, much to his parents' amusement. "At least it's proper dancing," his father had snorted. "Not any of this crazy jumping on the spot the kids do these days."

It was to dancing that he'd always retreated.

Holding Amelia in his arms on their wedding day while they whirled and spun under the loving eyes of their family in the dim light of the church hall, had been one the happiest nights of his life.

They were the dance. It was the promise of two lives joining together as one; standing fast against all that life could bring. He might lead, and she might follow, but he was dependent on that support, without it he would only stumble.

But being chained to a comet was a wearying business and it was easier just to live in that moment. "We all have a part to play in God's plan and if that means dancing then I'm more than happy to oblige," he thought in one of his, thankfully rare, lucid moments.

"Even the smallest cog is important to the whole." With that thought he spun on his heel and dipped Amelia low, making her chuckle with that laugh that always made his heart clench tight.

"So what do you feel like doing?" repeated Dean.

"Dancing," said Castiel, as if waking from dream. "For some reason I feel like dancing."

Dean may have blushed slightly, but he shrugged and went over to the older section of his vinyl collection. He put on an old favorite. "Okay, Gene Kelly. Show me your moves," he smiled, holding out a hand.
