This is my first fan fiction. I always thought that Dannyl would have doubts about his relationship, so here they are.
Set in between The Novice and The High Lord.

His back was against the cool stones of Aramje. "But I will." He said. Tayend looked at him, hope and care in his eyes. Tayend smiled, lighting up his handsome features. Then Tayend leaned forward, and pressed his lips against Dannyls', leaving what felt like an imprint, subtle and sweet. When Tayend leaned back, Dannyl leant forward, hoping to prolong the contact...
Dannyl sighed. It had been almost a week since Tayend had kissed him, and since then, things had changed. Sonea had challenged Regin to a formal battle in the Arena, and won, and he had been called back mysteriously to report to the High Lord. He had also discovered that he was a lad.
The gong sounded, and he rose from his chair and stood to watch the novices' hurrying to classes from his window. He looked around his quarters, marvelling at the mess, all the instruments covered in a layer of dust. Even his quarters in the Guild House in Capia felt more like home, with a view out on to the sea. The sea reminded him of Tayend, and the last time he had seen him, standing on the porch of his sister Mayrie's house, with a worried frown on his face.
He loved Tayend. He hadn't realised it. He loved his quick, cunning mind, and his care for others. He loved Tayend for his handsome features, and the fact that he was now, more than a friend. Can I really do this? He asked himself. Can I surrender myself to what I feel is right? Will this work? Will anybody suspect? What will happen if they do? Doubts began to fill Dannyl's mind, and he sank on to his bed. There was a crunch. He looked down to see a piece of parchment under his foot, with the mixture of inks that he had been experimenting with for mind-pictures covering it. He gripped it tightly in both hands, thinking of Tayend. What happens if they discover? I don't want Tayend hurt. What if I loose my position. His knuckles went white. He thought of his smile, his blond hair, his striking features and his perfect personality.
There was a rustle under his fingers, and he looked down to see that an image of Tayend had formed on the parchment. It was a clear, color image, but as he looked at it, it began to fade and blur. Is that how Tayend will become to me? Dannyl thought, bitterly. I want to be with Tayend. I love him. I just have to be careful.
There was a knock at the door, and Dannyl rose to open it, tucking the parchment inside his robes, to receive the messanger. The messanger bowed. "The High Lord says that you may return to your duties in Elyne. There will be a ship at the docks for you tomorrow." Dannyl could not keep the smile from his face as he ushered the messanger out of the door. When the door had closed behind him, Dannyl sank back on to the bed. He lightly touched the pocket which held the parchment.
I love Tayend. He loves me. We can make this work. We will be together, what ever it takes and whatever the consequences.
