Parental Figures

Elphaba always had a negative image of parental figures. Her father loathed her from the day she was born. It was to be expected after all she was green. Her mother thought that she was a curse, a curse that Melena could never get rid of. A curse that she was damned to deal with for the rest of her life. Neither of her parents loved her, showed her any affection, nothing…

But now that she was pregnant with Fiyero's child, now that she was going to be a mother, she guessed nothing changed.

How was it that she should show any affection to this child when she herself had never gotten any affection from her parents?

Elphaba threw up again, the pregnancy signs already setting in though she already knew. She had known for two weeks now, but Fiyero didn't know. She couldn't tell him. She was afraid to tell him. He had a wife, children, and a good life waiting for him back in the West. Who was she to ruin all of that? She had already ruined her own life, why should she ruin his?

So she decided not to tell him. He would be leaving soon, back to the Vinkus, and she would see him no more. That night she got a douse of reality that she really would never see him again.

That was the night that he was murdered. That was the night that she promised herself that she could never be a mother, would never be a mother. From that night forth, her and Fiyero's child was to be on its own, just like its parents.

Unloved, unwanted, and alone.

Elphaba could only guess that this child would grow up like herself, with a negative and spiteful image of parents.

As cruel as it sounds, Elphaba consider that to be her contribution to the life of their child. She had given the child its first lesson.

Everyone is alone in the world; you have to fight to survive.

The End
