Nothing but Empty - Post-Zungzwang
Emptiness. That is all he could feel was emptiness. She was gone. He had failed her. He couldn't protect her and now she was dead. He stood motionless looking at her body sobbing. That should have been him. He wish it had been him. Why couldn't it have been him? He didn't believe in god but now all he could do was curse the person that had taken away his beautiful Maeve. There wasn't much happiness in the job that he had grown to love and he thought that maybe; just maybe she would be what he needed in his life. He knew that she was what he needed. Slowly he made his way to her body before collapsing in the pool of blood that surrounded her and Diana's heads. Pulling her close he clutched onto her for what seemed to be years.
"I love you. I love you. I love you." He kept whispering in her hair. It smelled like vanilla and lavender. He had never really been a fan of the latter scent but he knew that it would mean so much to him now. He could faintly hear someone attempting to pull him away from her corpse but he wouldn't let go.
"Oh god. No. Why did it have to be you?" He barely recognized the pain in his arm but he vaguely noticed the gentle hand that was wrapping his shoulder.
"Spence, she's gone, you have to let her go." JJ whispered attempting to pull the genius off the person who had him so distracted in the last few months.
"Leave me alone Damnit!" He yelled at her before being overcome with tears once more. The team let him be, the coroner took Diana's body away and Spencer saw the bullet that was lodged in Maeve's head. If it were just a few inches over, he would still have the woman he loved. She would be returning the embrace that he held her limp body in.
He kissed her forehead "I love you Maeve Donovan," he murmured before falling into an unconscious state beside her.
