Hey guys. So I'm working on a new story, requested by ChillPillBerry. I hope you like it. And all of you who read Nightmares don't worry. It'll be updated soon. Here's chapter 1 of On the Run.
Disclaimer: S.E. Hinton owns the Outsiders.
"It's rough all over. Not just one neighborhood."~ Cherry Valence
As Cherry drove, all she could think about was the fact that her father had just tried to shoot her. She kept driving, unfocused. She couldn't concentrate as the rain pelted the car harder and faster.

Cherry's dad was still cussing at the doorway.
"Just send the girl, God Damn IT!"
Her mom crossed her arms. Carol rolled her eyes. "They CAN'T SEND DAUGHTERS!"
"WHY WOULD THEY SEND MY BOY...!?"
XxXx
Cherry had to get away from there. All the fighting and yelling associated with her.
She knew where to go. The DX gas station was always friendly service.
And she was hoping Sodapop would be there.
"You know? I'm thinking about getting Sandy back." Soda told Steve.
"You're not going to Florida, are you...?" he asked.
"Maybe, I need to get out." Soda whispered.
Just then the door opened and let in the cold fall air. Cherry walked in and went over to the counter.
"Hey, Soda. Could I have a coke, please?"
"Sure." Soda gave her a smile and moved to the fridge. Cherry blushed. She loved his smile. A strong wind blew Cherry's hair into her face and she turned to see who had come in. It was Marcia. Marcia saw Cherry and ran to her friend. The two girls hugged. Sodapop came back with her drink and greeted Marcia.
"Hey Soda," Marcia greeted, " Hey, Steve." She gave him a flirty smile, but Steve responded with a glare. Wonder what's his problem? Cherry wondered.
Cherry took a sip of her drink and flipped her cherry red hair over her shoulder. She saw Sodapop's eyes widen. Cherry frowned. Did she look that bad?
"Uh...Cherry, can I talk to you for a second?" Sodapop asked. Cherry nodded slowly. Soda came around the counter and took her around. She flinched at his touch, instinctively. He glanced back at her and lead her behind one of the shelves.
Soda took a deep breath and asked, "What's wrong, Cherry?" Cherry frowned.
"What do you mean?"
"Well," he began, "for starters', I saw you have a big bruise on your shoulder and your eyes are red and puffy, like you've been crying." Shit.
I can't tell him. If anyone finds out, my father will kill me.
"Uh, I tripped down the stairs."
Soda gave her a skeptical look. Cherry groaned. "It doesn't matter anyway. Um, I should get going. Marcia!" Cherry quickly walked to the door and waited for her best friend in the car. They both got into their cars and drove away.
"Did you see that Steve?" Soda asked his best friend. Steve shook his head. Soda frowned. He really didn't think that tripping down the stairs could cause a bruise that big. And the way that she avoided the question was suspicious. Soda promised himself he would find out what was going on. After visiting Sandy, of course. He'll admit, he had a bit of a crush on Cherry, but he needed to clear things up with Sandy first. Then he could deal what was going on with Cherry.
"Hey, what was with that glare you gave Marcia?"
Steve shrugged. "She's been coming onto me ever since I broke up with Evie. To be honest, she's getting a little annoying with all the flirting." Soda sighed. That was Steve's problem. Soda already had other things on his mind.
NO! Cherry kept repeating that word over and over again in her head. No, I can't tell Sodapop that I like him. And I can't tell him the truth about what happened. Even less that my father abuses me. I can't.
