Here's a new one-shot for all the Twilight fans- I know it's very short but I only wanted it to be, because I knew Bella wouldn't want to talk about this so much. Read, enjoy and review. Molly (:

Replacement

I hadn't loved her always. Love was a recent progression, but it fell on me with full force even so. She was just sat in my car while I worked on the bikes, and suddenly, something clicked. I knew then, when she was just simply sat, listening to me jabbering on about my friends, that this was it. She was the one. The one I wanted to spend my life with.

I know she doesn't feel the same way. I know that even though he had left her, she was still as much in love with him as I was with her. I know that it will take time for me to persuade her. I know that this can only work if he never returns. I'm counting on that fact, because I know without it, I'll always be her friend, and only her friend.

It hurts me to see her so sad, it really does, especially as he's the cause of it and I can do practically nothing to lift the troubles from her shoulders. I can't bring him back. All I can hope to do is replace him.

"Bella?" I look up from the motorbike, wrench in one hand.

"Hmm?" she's barely listening.

"Do you really, er, is there anything I can do for you? To make you happy again?"

She smiles softly, weakly. "No, Jacob. I've told you a thousand times, it's my mess, I'll get myself out of it. Besides, I'm fine now."

"Sure, sure."

"You don't believe me, do you?"

"I know what he did to you, and how it's affected you. It's plain for everyone to see."

"I'm fine, honestly."

"You can tell me about it, you know. I can help."

"You can't Jacob. Nobody can help. Well, there's one person that can, but I'm never going to see that person again. No one can replace that person."

"Not even me?"

"Not even you. Sorry, Jake."

I bend over the motorbike again, pretending to be adding something to it. When I look up again, her face is close to mine.

"I'm not looking for a replacement, Jake."

"I know, Bella, I just thought…"

"Thought that I was ready to move on? Away from all this?"

"Well, yeah, I guess."

"Never, Jake. My heart will always belong to him, and that's that. I can't recover. No one can help, not you, not anyone. And I'm definitely not looking for a replacement in all this, sorry."

"Don't worry, Bella, you've not offended me. I was just thinking of other ways to help, that's all. I hate seeing you like this."

"Don't worry about me, Jake, I'll be fine. I'm tougher than I look." She attempts a brave smile.

I smile back falsely. "Sure, sure."
