Luna laid on her back in the front yard of her house and Draco leaned against a tree near her.
"Whatcha doin?"She turned to him.
"I'm counting the stars." She looked back up at the night sky. "One million one, one million two..."
"Luna, you just went from fifteen to a million. You can't skip that many numbers, and you can't count stars." He sighed and sat next to her.
"Let me count the stars!" She frowned and started again. "Three million and two, three million and five..." Draco groaned and stood up. Luna, you're crazy."
"Now you tell me that I'm crazy. That's nothing that I didn't know, Draco." She smiled and continued counting the stars. He walked into the house and whipped up a quick dinner. It was mashed potatoes and gravy with bread again, it was too late to get take-out. Luna shouted from outside, possible waking up the whole neighborhood.
"DRACO! A SHOOTING STAR!" he hit his head on the wall and groaned. She was too perky. She was never tired, she was always loud, she was never normal. He walked outside and sat next to her, holding out dinner.
"You hungry?" He paid no attention to the shooting star. She apparently didn't like him ignoring her.
"DRACO MALFOY, LOOK AT THAT STAR RIGHT NOW AND MAKE A WISH!" she furrowed her brow and he groaned, looking to his left. The star had just fallen over the mountain, and Luna had her eyes shut tight, like she was sleeping and having a nightmare. He also closed his eyes and took a deep breath. After a moment he opened his eyes and looked at her. She was looking at him too.
"What did you wish for, Draco" she smiled and faced him.
"Aren't you not supposed to tell anyone your wish?" He smiled and pulled grass out of the ground, tossing it aside.
"That's a lie; you can tell if you want!" She grinned at him. "So what did you wish for?" He sighed and laughed.
"I wished I could see more butterflies." She laughed and he smiled, her laugh was a one-of-a-kind, just like her, and it always made him smile. "Now what did you wish for, Lu?" She stopped laughing and faced away from him. "That's none of your business, Mr. Malfoy." She huffed and crossed her arms. He grinned and picked her up from behind, carrying her like a bundle.
"DRACO, PUT ME DOWN!" She struggled to get away from him. "IM A LADY!" He laughed at her.
"As soon as you tell me what you wished for, I'll put you down! I had to tell you, so you have to tell me!" She positioned herself to where she could whisper in his ear, and sighed.
"I wished...that I was beautiful..." he stopped laughing and set her down.
"Luna, did you really wish for that?" He frowned and she nodded. "Well, goodnight Draco. I'm going to go count the stars some more." She seemed less energetic and he wished she was being as perky as she usually was. He loved how she was completely crazy, and how she loved every second of knowing it.
"Luna, you already are beautiful." She ignored him and sat in the grass, eyes flooded with tears. She had never cried over a boy in her life, she didn't know why she would cry over Draco Malfoy.
"Its okay, Draco. You don't have to say that."
"I'm going to say it until you believe it." He sat down beside her. He always thought she was the most confident person in the world, nothing could tear her down."Luna Lovegood, you are beautiful." He sat in front of her, and she turned away."Im not lying, Lu. You are. Your hair is like...long, and blonde, and stuff..." he wasn't good at showing how he felt. He never had been. She looked over at him.
"Draco, I made the wish, thinking about you. I wished I was more beautiful to you. Why can't you just think I'm beautiful?" She frowned and stormed inside. He made a confused face and rolled his eyes. She was crazy. She was beautiful, but she was crazy.
