"Starfire's lucky." Raven said absently as she watched TV at the edge of her bed. A perky woman in elegantly casual clothes was covering the latest outing that the aforementioned alien and her boyfriend had gone on earlier that week.
"How's that?" Gar flipped a page in his comic book, not bothering to look up from where he lounged at the head of her bed. It was a rare moment of him being still and quiet. Actually, these moments were becoming more frequent as they spent more time together.
Raven sighed. "Because she's gorgeous. Men literally drool when she passes by, I've seen it. All I get are looks of terror, if they look at me at all."
"Well to be fair, you do have a reputation of being…"
"Bitchy?"
"I was going to say standoffish."
Rolling her eyes, Raven huffed. She could hear the grin on his face. "Whatever, I guess I'm just feeling a little jealous."
She heard Garfield toss aside his comic book. "Whoa, that is not just whatever! Starfire's got nothing on you!"
As he started moving across the bed towards her, Raven turned and arched a disbelieving eyebrow.
"You've got nothing to be jealous of! Sure," Garfield continued. "Star's got an amazing bust, and an ass that won't quit. But, that's it. Beauty like that is in your mind one minute," He snapped his fingers. "And gone the next. Yours is a more… ethereal beauty. Transcendent even. Honestly, it… It haunts me."
He came to rest next to her, and looked into her eyes. Raven's breath stopped as she found herself caught in his smoldering emerald gaze.
"You're right, when men see Star they see her physical beauty, which she admittedly has in spades. But if men saw you like I see you…" He shook his head and laughed before locking his eyes back on her. "Raven, I've spent entire nights awake just thinking about you. And when I actually do sleep , I have fevered dreams of you that leave me breathless. Everything about you is a pleasure to behold. Your eyes, your hair, your smile. God, Rae, your smile! Star smiles, and the world smiles with her. You smile, and the world stops, that's how stunningly beautiful it is."
Raven felt her cheeks flood with heat and her heartbeat quicken as she continued staring deep into his eyes. He was never this serious when he complimented her.
"You're being a little ridiculous…" She mumbled.
"No, you're being ridiculous!" He shot up from the bed, and began pacing. "You remember how I was when we first started dating. I couldn't eat, I couldn't sleep, I couldn't do anything! I was too nervous, too anxious, I felt unworthy. I was trying to do everything and anything I could to show you how much I appreciate you, and I didn't stop until you tossed me into a wall out of annoyance, and I got a concussion!"
"Ugh, don't remind me." Raven said, hiding her face with her hands. "In my defense, you were acting crazy."
Garfield snapped his fingers and pointed at her. "That's exactly right!"
Suddenly he was on her, pushing her down onto the bed and propping himself up so that they were only inches apart.
"Starfire spends literal hours every morning getting ready for her day. Most I've seen you use is that lavender shampoo, and it drives me to the edge of insanity." He sniffed her a little bit as if to prove his point, and Raven slapped his arm playfully.
"Stop that." She admonished.
"Look, I could go on and on for the rest of our lives, and I plan to," Raven gasped a little at that. "But my point is this. Star's got it, she's got a lot of it, and she flaunts it, and she should because it's great. But other girls have that too. You've got something else, and it's better. So I don't mind when you go out baggy clothes, or that ridiculous cloak, because I don't want other guys to see you. I'm selfish. I don't want to share. You're mine."
"Yours?" Raven asked in mock indignation, arching an eyebrow.
Garfield grinned. "Mine." And then brought his lips to hers.
