Dobby's Polka-Dotted Sock

Their Fairytale

The mementos of the children are what he truly cherishes. In this little tower, this home he's made for himself as he guards Christmas and Gallifrey alike, there are many, many drawings of many things. But mostly of the stories, the stories he tells the children, and the children of those children.

Stories of a little redheaded girl who ends up not so little in the end, and the many amazing acts she commits; inspiring artists, fighting pirates, and saving a whale in space, who was not a whale at all, but really a sad, mad old man.

There are other stories, too, of a brave, loyal Centurion, the best man who ever lived. A wild, yet lovely woman with hair of curls and a quick shot—or kiss—always at the ready. A strange, impossible girl who turned out to be wonderfully ordinary and yet still so impossible. But that red, red hair…it will never leave him.

And in the end, when he feels his skin begin to tighten and smooth over as if it is so brand new again, it is to their covenant, their fish fingers and custard that he turns to for his last meal.

Clara finds him, like he hoped and knew she would, because this time, he really does not want to be alone. He should never be alone.

And yet they are not alone. The TARDIS hums around them—there the same as the last time, and he hopes not to hurt her as badly—and the drawings to, appear in his mind's eye.

But not just the drawings. There she is, running and happy and free. That fresh, brand new face that greeted him here to see him off.

Because he doesn't need a song to send him off to sleep. He just needs her.

"Raggedy Man…goodnight."

With a smile, he takes the bowtie—that last memento leftover of their time together—and lets it flutter to the floor. The new man won't be needing it anymore.

He will always remember, and so will Clara. But Amy won't ever forget.

In dreams, they'll still be there.

So, just some more variation on the story/fairytale theme. Let me know what you thought? Thanks for reading, and please review!
