A loud shrill jolted Paul awake, and with a start, he realized it was his cell phone. "I just fell asleep.." he mumbled sounding rather cranky. Glaring at the name on the screen, he answered it.
"Yes Dawn?" Paul muttered, waiting for her response. After what felt like minutes to Paul, she responded.
"Ask me if I'm drunk." Dawn giggled into the phone. Paul knew what she was doing, and he certainly did not feel like entertaining her childish game but it was the quickest way for him to go back to bed so he decided to humor her.
Paul sighed heavily. "Are you drunk?"
"NO!" Dawn just about shrilled into her phone, causing Paul to pull his phone from his ear a few inches. "I'm not drunk, I can't believe you think that!" she continued, sounding on the verge of tears.
After her loud admission, Paul had had enough. "Come to bed Dawn." Paul said, trying to hide the annoyance in his voice.
"I can't," Dawn began to whine, "I'm not sure where I am…" she began to giggle again.
"You're downstairs," Paul said, sounding like he was stating a fact. "You woke me up 10 minutes ago coming in the front door. You're not very quiet you know."
"Fiiiiiiiiine" Dawn whined dramatically. "I'll come to stupid bed. Oh, Paul?"
"Hm," he responded, not really paying attention, sleep was starting to win.
"I love you." she said, her drunken slurs completely gone.
His eyes widen a fraction and he smirked, just a little bit. "I love you too. Now, come to bed." He said and hung up before Dawn could say anything back.
He set his phone down and got situated under the covers. Not a minute later, he heard the bedroom door open and the weight of Dawn's body laying on the mattress next to him. Before he fell asleep the last thing he heard Dawn mumble something to herself.
"Okay so I am drunk. A little."
