"Are you listening to me?" Draco tapped his grandson, Orion, on the head. "I'm trying to tell you about the love of my life."
"Grandma?" Orion looked up at him
"No, not your Grandma."
"Then who?"
"If you'll hush I'll tell you." Draco was an old man. Years spent as an entrepreneur in the wizard world left him tired all the time. The only respites he had were his grandson, and the stories from his school days. Especially stories about her.
"Let me start out be saying that I regret nothing except her. She was the kind of girl that you loved and then felt guilty about. When I think of all the times I tried to get her to leave her husband, I almost start to cry…"
"Why would you cry, Grandpa?"
"Because, Orion. I loved her so very much. I would tell her that I could give her everything. Everything that her waster of a husband couldn't. She would just turn me away. And it's no wonder she never believed me when I promised her the earth. During school, I always put her down, and made her a fool; would hardly feel a thing while doing it.
And I tell you something, boy. A man must earn his living. Don't just think that you can live on the Malfoy name alone. I tried, and that's why I lost her. She was a wonderful woman. Strong, caring, brave… She told me once that she loved me very much, but I was too broken and prideful to let her love me. Don't make the same mistakes I did, Orion. When you grow up and love somebody, and I mean truly love them…don't let them slip away."
"What was her name, Grandpa?"
"Hermione Granger."
