Chapter 1
Earth-X
Brilliant flashes of lightning illuminated the dark, stormy reddish sky nonstop. The flashes were accompanied by deafening booms of thunder that roared above the Earth, or at least a variation of Earth that looked quite eerie and terrifying even at first glance. Everything in sight was strictly in the colors of red, black and the occasional white. All the buildings bore the Nazi symbol. Blimps, which contained the same symbol, flew around in the air.
Down below, outside a warehouse, a man in a lab coat appeared next to a guard who was carrying a large gun.
"Hey, Doc," the guard said, "you really think you can make that thing work?"
"We need to make it work if we're ever gonna bring hope back to this darkened world," the man in the lab coat replied. He was about to lift the mug of coffee was he holding when, suddenly, he and the guard were instantly incinerated by reddish-orange laser beams. The mug fell and shattered as it hit the ground.
Hovering several meters in the air was a dark-haired, caped figure in a red and black costume. The figure was also wearing a black mask with red eye lenses. His eyes glowed reddish-orange, and then he fired laser beams at the rest of the gun-wielding guards in the vicinity, giving them not even the slightest chance to put up a fight.
The figure, clearly a Kryptonian, landed and started to head into the warehouse on foot.
Then, a speedster, clad in a silver version of Kid Flash's costume, whooshed in and appeared a few feet behind the Kryptonian, who was known as Overman.
"You're the best they could send?" Overman asked in a deep, distorted voice that concealed what he really sounded like.
"Funny," the silver speedster, who was actually Wally West, replied, "I was gonna say the same thing."
Without warning, Overman swiftly lunged towards Flash-X, but Flash-X managed to speed out of the way. Overman attempted another lunge, only for the same result to occur.
"You're a fool if you truly think you'll be able to beat me," Overman boasted.
"Actually, I can beat you," Flash-X confidently announced. Wasting no time, he pulled out a lead stick and removed the casing, revealing a knife with a glowing green blade.
Overman gasped in surprise and started to slowly back away from Flash-X as nausea, dizziness and great pain overtook his body.
Flash-X whooshed towards the weakened Overman and started delivering over a dozen speed-punches to the latter's gut. Overman collapsed to the ground, the effects of the kryptonite knife rendering him helpless.
Flash-X snickered, proud of himself. "Bet you didn't see this coming. Who's the fool now?"
Flash-X then kicked the Overman several times. The speedster was about to stab his opponent in the chest with the kryptonite knife when Flash-X was suddenly thrown into the air by a powerful gust of icy wind. He groaned as he hit the pavement, more than half of his suit covered in frost. He looked up to see a brunette woman, in a black mask and red and black costume nearly identical to the one Overman was wearing, hovering in the air. She had attacked him with her freeze breath. The woman then destroyed the kryptonite knife lying on the ground by blasting it into thousands of pieces with her heat vision.
As the effects of the kryptonite disappeared, Overman immediately got back up, flew into the air, and hovered side-by-side with the female Kryptonian, who was known as Overwoman.
As Flash-X prepared to climb back up to his feet as well, he suddenly screamed in agony as Overwoman attacked his left leg with her heat vision, incinerating it entirely.
He painfully clutched the seared spot where the lower part of his leg was now missing. Intending to finish the speedster off, Overman whooshed towards Flash-X, grabbed him by the top of his head with one hand, and lifted him off the ground.
"You should know that there are more like me," Flash-X breathed out, through the massive pain he was feeling from having had his left leg completely burnt off. "One day, they will free this world."
"That day may come," Overman said, despite not really believing his own words, "but you won't be here to see it."
"That flag died a long time ago, honey," Overwoman added, her voice also distorted, disguised, and equally as intimidating as Overman's.
"Well, it still means something," Flash-X said.
"Yeah, it means you will have died for nothing," Overman hissed. He squeezed the top of Flash-X's head, mercilessly crushing the speedster's skull. He dropped Flash-X's lifeless body to the ground.
The pair of Kryptonians entered the warehouse. They approached a large machine that was lit up in red and white.
"With this, our reign will last for eternity," Overman vowed.
"And we shall become more powerful than we've ever been," Overwoman added.
Earth-1, Central City
Barry Allen, clad in his Flash suit, was battling King Shark in the middle of a street. It was night time. Barry was circling around King Shark, dodging the latter's attacks.
"Barry, we have a major problem," he heard the voice of his fiancée, Iris West, announce over his comms.
"Yep, fighting it right now," Barry responded.
"No, no, it's about our wedding," Iris clarified. She was in the cortex of S.T.A.R. Labs.
"This is not the best time," Barry said, his voice filled with panic, as King Shark had managed to grab him with one hand.
The roaring monster effortlessly flung him into a building, causing him to crash through a couple of glass doors.
Barry got right back up and super-sped back outside towards King Shark. He sped behind King Shark, vibrated his fist, and punched the half-man/half-shark creature in the back of the head. King Shark collapsed to the ground, out for the count.
"Well, the caterers need a final count tomorrow morning and not everyone has RSVP'd yet," Iris said to Barry.
"Who hasn't RSVP'd?" he asked.
Earth-1, Star City
Oliver Queen, clad in his Green Arrow gear, was engaging some ninjas inside a warehouse.
"Hey, Oliver, we gotta talk," he heard the voice of Felicity Smoak announce over his comms. "Earth to Oliver."
Oliver was knocked to the ground by one of the ninjas, pieces of debris crashing on top of him, albeit non-fatally. The emerald archer climbed back up and immediately engaged the ninja in battle. He managed to gain the upper hand, knocking the ninja down.
"I'm. A little. Busy. Right. Now," Oliver responded to Felicity, delivering a hard blow to the ninja's face each time he spoke a word.
"Well, it's not like you're dealing with Damien Darhk," Felicity pointed out. She was inside the Arrowcave. "I mean, these are just some ninjas."
"If you were here, you might have a little more respect for 'just some ninjas'," Oliver countered, shooting an arrow that pinned a ninja to the wall.
"Okay, this is serious," Felicity said. "Barry and Iris need to know if we're going to their wedding."
"Of course we're going," Oliver answered, single-handedly taking out three more ninjas.
"Yes! Okay, so I'll RSVP yes, then," Felicity said.
"Barring further ninjas," Green Arrow remarked.
"Perfect," Felicity said. She checked the 'Accepts with Pleasure' option on her and Oliver's wedding invitation paper.
Earth-1, England, 1183 AD
In a wooded area, a cloaked Martin Stein was approached by several knights on horseback.
"Please, sir, alms for the poor?" Stein asked, trying to sound as convincing as possible.
"Out of the way, old man," the leading knight ordered. "Royal business in Nottingham. It'll be your neck if we're late."
Suddenly, one of the knights was knocked off his house. Then, arrows were fired at the other knights, who also fell down.
"It's Robin Hood!" the leading knight exclaimed, as he spotted another cloaked figure, who was actually Sara Lance.
As an arrow with a flaming tip flew in her direction, Sara effortlessly caught it with her bare hand.
"Not quite," the ex-assassin said, pulling the hood of her cloak down. She hurled the flaming arrow towards the leading knight, striking him directly in the chest and causing him to fall off his horse.
Also present were Mick Rory and Jefferson Jackson. The former torched the carriage their enemies were using with his flamethrower, while the latter was armed with a bow.
"Oh, dear," Stein muttered, as one of the knights collapsed in front of him.
"Hey, guys," Sara called out, as she was struggling to free herself from the firm hold one of their enemies had her in, "did we RSVP for Iris and Barry's wedding?"
"We definitely did not," Jax answered, in the middle of engaging a knight.
"Then that's a serious breach of courtesy," Stein said.
Sara finally managed to get free as she flipped over and knocked her opponent to the ground.
"Weddings are the worst," Mick announced.
Just then, they looked up as the Waverider appeared in the night sky.
"All right, team, let's go! We got a wedding to prepare for!" Stein instructed.
"Let's go," Sara told Mick and Jax. The three of them, plus Stein, prepared to head off, having knocked out all the knights.
Earth-21, Metropolis
"You know, Lois, I'm really glad you agreed to come along with me to the other Earth and attend Barry's wedding as my plus-one," Clark Kent said to his wife Lois Lane. They were inside their apartment sitting on the couch. "That way, we don't have to spend time apart from each other in two separate universes this time."
"You're the only reason I'm attending at all," Lois replied. "I mean, if you go to this wedding, then I'll go with you. But, if you change your mind and decide not to go after all, then I won't go either." She then jokingly added, "Oh, and you're my plus-one by the way, Smallville, not the other way around."
"How about we make it fair and be each other's plus-one?" Clark suggested, smiling affectionately. He looked Lois directly in the eyes and caressed her cheek.
She did the same. "Sure. We can do that."
Clark and Lois gradually leaned towards each other. Just as their lips were able to make physical contact, the moment was interrupted by the sound of the doorbell. Clark and Lois abruptly pulled away.
"That must be Oliver and Chloe," Clark announced, getting up from the couch. "I got it."
He went to the door and opened it. Indeed, Oliver Queen and his wife, Chloe Sullivan, were standing on the other side of the door.
"Oliver, Chloe," Clark called out.
"Hey, Clark," Ollie said.
Lois also got up from the couch and headed to the door. "Hey, Ollie. Hey, coz."
"Hey," Chloe said, smiling. "You guys ready to travel to a parallel universe? I am quite curious to see what it's like. Actually being on another Earth!" Her voice was filled with both excitement and curiosity, the same kind of curiosity she often displayed during her high school years when she was a reporter for The Torch.
"Chloe, all we're doing is attending a wedding because Barry invited us to come, nothing more," Clark reminded her.
"I know, Clark, but come on, this is an alternate Earth we're talking about," Chloe pointed out. "Unlike some members of our merry little League, not all of us have experienced going to one. Hell, even after all these years being a major player within your supernatural orbit, I haven't even yet experienced time travel. I know we're only attending a wedding, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm excited and curious about going to a parallel universe for the first time."
"Oh," Lois said, turning to Chloe and Ollie as something crossed her mind. "So who's gonna be watching Roy while both of his parents are off having a ball with a bunch of strangers in a whole different plane of existence?"
"That would be Mia," Chloe answered. "She's gonna house-sit and look after Roy while we're gone."
"You know how much he enjoys the company of his Aunt Speedy whenever she comes around," Ollie added. "She'll definitely keep our boy in a happy mood."
"We're only gonna be gone for a couple of days, tops," Chloe pointed out, "which is not too long for him to miss us."
"Provided that nothing crazy and unexpected happens while we're over there," Lois added with a hint of concern, thinking back to when Darkseid had ruined her and Clark's first attempt to get married, and then when Toyman's league of supervillains, the Legion of Doom, had done the same to their second attempt a year later. Fortunately and quite surprisingly, their third wedding, which took place in summer 2015, had been a success. "I mean, based on the track record we have, combining superheroes and wedding ceremonies is almost guaranteed to spell disaster."
"For the time being, Lois, please, let's think positive and hope nothing like that happens," Clark told her. "We'll cross that bridge only if we get to it. Barry invited us to his wedding so we can all have a good time. Stuff like supervillains showing up out of the blue and causing major disasters is the last thing we should be thinking about for the next couple of days."
"Yeah," Ollie agreed. "Let's just forget about saving the world for a change, huh? Even Superman and Green Arrow deserve their days off, you know."
"After everything you two have done for this city and the rest of the world, I couldn't agree more," Chloe said. "And besides, it's not like we don't have other heroes to hold down things in yours and Clark's absence."
Clark pulled the inter-dimensional extrapolator from his jacket pocket. "You guys ready?" he asked. After Ollie, Chloe, and Lois nodded, Clark pressed the button on the extrapolator, causing a breach to appear before them. "Central City of Earth-1, here we come."
Clark, Lois, Chloe, and Ollie jumped through the breach.
Earth-1, Central City
Barry was standing outside in front of the S.T.A.R. Labs entrance. He was waiting on the arrival of the Earth-21 individuals. Suddenly, a breach appeared about thirty feet away, and Clark, Lois, Chloe, and Ollie emerged from it.
"Did we make it?" Chloe asked.
"Yeah, it certainly doesn't look like we're in another universe," Lois said, looking around.
Clark suddenly spotted Barry, and nodded. "We made it all right."
Chloe, Lois, and Ollie followed Clark over to where Barry was standing.
"Hey, guys," Barry told them.
"It's good to see you again, Barry," Clark responded.
"Yeah, you too," Barry said, as he shook Clark's hand. He also shook hands with Ollie, Lois, and Chloe.
"So, Barry, how does it feel being the luckiest super-stud of the day?" Lois asked. "Or should I say of tomorrow, since we're here a day early like you asked us to be?"
"I feel, uh, excited," Barry answered, "and a little nervous at the same time."
"Well, that's totally normal," Lois assured him. She glanced at her friends and turned back to Barry. "We've all been there and done that when we're about to take a walk down the aisle of happily ever after."
Ollie turned to Barry. "So, what do we do in the meantime? I mean, the wedding isn't until tomorrow, but you wanted us to come here a day early so we can properly prepare for it."
"For right now, uh, all right, so, uh, the others are inside as we speak, so, um, let's get started with introductions," Barry instructed. He turned to Clark and Ollie. "Everyone already knows you guys from last year of course." To Lois and Chloe, he added, "So I guess it's you two's turn to meet some of my friends."
"I have to say, this version of S.T.A.R. Labs, inside and out, looks way different than the one we know," Lois commented, as Barry was leading her, Clark, Ollie, and Chloe into the building.
"And it appears to be more advanced than ours," Chloe noted.
"Not only that," Clark added. "In this universe, S.T.A.R. Labs is located in Central City instead of Metropolis." He turned to Barry. "I don't suppose a Dr. Virgil Swann was the one who founded this place like he did on our Earth, was he? It was all thanks to that man that I managed to learn a lot about who I really am."
"I never heard of a Dr. Virgil Swann," Barry said. "On this Earth, this place was founded by a Dr. Harrison Wells." He had deliberately neglected to use said founder's true name. The thought of his greatest nemesis was absolutely the last thing Barry wanted to have on his mind, especially on the eve of what would, undoubtedly, become the happiest day of his life. "But, ever since Wells' death, I've been the owner," he added, bending the truth a little.
"You own this place?" Lois asked, surprised.
"Yeah, I guess I do," Barry nodded. "Ever since I became The Flash, we've been using this building as our base of operations."
"Not bad, Mr. Allen," Lois said. "You're definitely more grown-up than our world's Flash, who still acts every bit as childish as he looks."
"Come on, Bart's not that bad, Lois," Clark defended his speedster buddy. "He is a far cry from that teenage thief I met all those years ago."
"That may be true, honey, but it doesn't change the fact that he behaves as if he's still only half his actual age," Lois countered. "Besides, the majority of the credit goes to you for Bart dropping his pickpocketing ways and permanently steering away from a life of petty crime."
Barry and the Earth-21'ers entered the cortex. Inside were Oliver, Felicity, Iris, Cisco, and Caitlin.
"Guys, here are the guests from the other Earth," Barry announced to the Earth-1'ers. "Oliver Queen of Earth-21 and Clark Kent, you guys already met them. But you haven't met their wives: Chloe Sullivan and Lois Lane." He individually pointed to the women as he said their names. Introducing the Earth-1'ers to the cousins, he then said, "Chloe and Lois, this is, believe it or not, Oliver Queen of Earth-1, Felicity Smoak, Iris West, my fiancée, Cisco Ramon, and Caitlin Snow."
Chloe and Lois greeted and shook hands with the Earth-1'ers.
"It's nice to meet you, um, Mr. Queen," Lois said to Oliver, not showing even the slightest bit of surprise or amazement by his difference in appearance from Ollie.
"You can just call me Oliver," Oliver said.
"Well, Oliver, that would be slightly confusing now, wouldn't it, considering the fact that there's now two Oliver Queens-slash-Green Arrows standing in the same room together," Lois pointed out.
"Just to let you know, Lois, the last time I was on this Earth, everyone called me Ollie while they called him Oliver," Ollie said. "So I'm guessing it would make things easy if we just stuck with that same routine this time around as well."
"Got it," Lois nodded. "I guess that'll do then, Ollie and Oliver." She turned to the latter. "Clark mentioned that you had an entirely different face from our Ollie. But, hey, as both the wife of an intergalactic alien powerhouse and an ace reporter for the Daily Planet whose articles consisted of not-so-normal occurrences ninety-something percent of the time, very little surprises me anymore."
"I think we can all agree that that applies to every single one of us standing in this room right now," Oliver said.
"Yeah, you're right about that," Lois agreed.
Iris turned to Lois. "Wait, you're a reporter?"
"Most definitely," Lois answered, with a proud smile. "I'm not sure if it exists in this universe too or not, but I work for the Daily Planet. Clark does too. But, in his case, it's more of a cover to hide the fact that he's Superman from the world. Well, that and even superheroes gotta pay their bills just like the rest of us. Let me guess, you're a reporter too."
"I was for a while," Iris said. "I was working at CCPN, Central City Picture News."
"Was?" Lois noted. "So you're not still working there right now."
Iris shook her head. "Not really. Lately, all I've been doing is helping Barry, Cisco, and Caitlin with the usual superhero stuff. Protecting this city from rogue meta-humans and crime in general."
"Well, it's not like you really need to work, right?" Ollie said to Iris. "What with your soon-to-be husband being the owner of this universe's S.T.A.R. Labs and all."
"And he's a Forensic Scientist at CCPD on top of that," Caitlin added.
Chloe turned to Felicity and said, "So, Felicity Smoak, have I been curious to meet you? My alleged alternate Earth counterpart, albeit with a different name."
"I've been curious to meet you too, Chloe Sullivan," Felicity said. "You know, ever since your Oliver mentioned you to me last year when he was on this Earth helping us fight the Dominators, which I'm guessing he told you all about. What exactly did he tell you about me?"
"Oh, uh, Ollie just compared us and pointed out our similarities as blonde superhero hackers who are each associated with a Green Arrow," Chloe explained.
"He did mention you were a computer hacker too," Felicity recalled. "It's so cool that we're finally standing face-to-face with each other!"
"Yeah, it's always awesome meeting a fellow tech-genius," Chloe agreed. "Much more one who is said to be extremely similar to yourself, which tends to not happen very often."
"Tell me about it," Felicity said. "You and I should totally get together and team-up on a mission one of these days. You know, Overwatch and... who are you if you don't mind me asking?"
"I'm Watchtower," Chloe answered.
"Watchtower," Felicity repeated. "Overwatch and Watchtower. Watchtower and Overwatch. Yes! We should totally team-up one of these days!"
"Watchtower," Cisco gushed, pointing to Chloe with an impressed look on his face. "Awesome nickname."
"Thank you," Chloe said.
"He's always like that," Caitlin said to Chloe. "Cisco and his superhero nicknames."
"See? I knew you two ladies would get along," Ollie said to Chloe and Felicity.
"Maybe Chloe and Felicity are each other from different Earths only with different names," Lois suggested.
"That's the same thing I said," Ollie said. He turned to Chloe and Felicity. "And I still haven't given up on that possibility, to be honest."
"The biggest glitch with that theory, Ollie, is that we don't know for sure whether or not there's already an Earth-1 Chloe Sullivan or an Earth-21 Felicity Smoak in existence," Barry pointed out. "If it turns out that they do exist on either Earth, then this theory you have about Chloe and Felicity being counterparts in the same way as you and our Oliver would be proven false."
"Good point," Ollie said.
"I can always look her up!" Felicity and Chloe eagerly announced at the same time. The two women exchanged amused glances. "Yeah, I'll look up your counterpart and you can look up mine!" The two women continued to speak in unison.
Everyone in the room, even Oliver, burst into laughter.
"Okay, I think I'm gonna have to agree with Earth-21 Oliver on this one," Cisco said to Felicity and Chloe. "You two are definitely counterparts."
