Moving To Domino City Chap.1
A/N: I haven't forgotten about this story. I have been really busy with college and life haha. After rereading this, I like/dislike some parts. I changed some things a little bit, and I hope you guys support the slight change in my story. I do not own Yugioh. I only own my characters, Riley, Kirin, Madison, Yunji and Ayleanne and others I will throw in here.
Riley looked out the window and saw Japan. Sure she has been here on occasion with her uncle Yunji, but coming there alone for the first time made her feel anxious, excited, nervous, and everything else in between at once. She felt weird leaving her home in California, the only place she had known her whole life. Her mother, at the request of Seto Kaiba, wanted her as the new marketing director, since she had been doing so well in the Los Angeles location, and of course, Seto Kaiba always hired the best employees. Since Seto needed his mother to start the job right away, she left first. Riley just finished up her semester, so she is now following her mother.
It had always been Kari and Riley. Riley's father left them both when Riley was a little girl. The only things she knew about him is that he is Japanese and his last name is Ueda. Being half Japanese, half Filipino was something she was proud about at least, but had resentment towards her father.
With her uncle being the principal of Domino High, she got special treatment in being admitted, but that didn't mean she wasn't exempt from taking tests. Riley's Japanese is very basic, so she would have to take some Japanese classes on top of her core subjects.
Last Week
Riley just arrived home from hanging out with her friends. Her mother sat the table with a manila envelope containing a thick stack of papers.
"Hey mom, what's with all the documents?" Riley asked curiously.
Kari smiled at her daughter. "I just got a promotion."
That was something to celebrate alright or so she thought.
"Did you finally get that marketing director job that you always wanted at Kaiba Corp? We should totally celebrate if you did; you've been working hard for the past like 10 years trying to get this promotion."
"Yes I did." Kari's smile went down a neutral look. "But, I would have to move to Japan for this promotion."
Riley just had a look of shock. The notorious Seto Kaiba wanted to hire her mother as the marketing director of his headquarters?
"For real? How about school then? Isn't Uncle Yunji the principal in the city where Kaiba Corp is located? This is so cool, please tell me you took the job."
"Yes I did." Kari smiled. "I already contacted your Uncle Yunji requesting if he could admit you in Domino High School. Well, he said you still need to take a Japanese proficiency exam and I know you're taking Japanese 1 still. My Japanese could use a little work too. I haven't spoken it much after your father left."
"How the hell will I get the exam?" Riley was puzzle at how her uncle could give her the exam from the other side of the world.
"He faxed me the documents this morning." Kari looked at her daughter in amazement. "You know, I was expecting you to be a bit more upset since Mr. Kaiba just dropped this bombshell on me today and I had to make a hasty decision since, well you know, Mr. Kaiba doesn't like waiting on decisions much. I agreed since this is what I've been dreaming of after I got my masters."
"Mom, I've been wanting to go to Japan since the first time I watched anime. I admit though, I am a little nervous since I don't know anyone, but this is Japan we're talking about, I'm pumped!"
"Mr. Kaiba requests that I leave by the end of the week. He wants me to start right away. Paperwork has been settled and I'm sorry for leaving you alone like this."
"Do what you have to do mom. I'll be ok, I'm assuming auntie Kyla and uncle Scott will come here or I stay there?"
"Yes, you'll be staying at their house during the duration of the semester. Tomorrow after school, I made an appointment to update our passports. Also, uncle Yunji told me to tell you to fax those documents by next Friday. I wrote down the number to fax it too alright."
"Yes mother and by the way, where will we stay?"
"Your uncle Yunji was nice enough to let us live in one of his properties he was going to rent out for the mean time until we can afford our own place. It's close to your school and close to work, so it's convenient."
"Awesome, I can't wait."
FF to Present Day
Riley went to the baggage claim to get her bags. From out of nowhere, her uncle surprised her, which made Riley jump.
"Uncle!" Riley hit her uncle's arm playfully.
"My little Rei." Yunji ruffled his niece's hair a little. "Let me help you with your baggage and get it loaded into the car."
"Where's mom?" Riley asked.
"Unfortunately, your mother is preoccupied with work today. I can take you to see her if you like. She forgot to bring her lunch, would you mind dropping it off to her?"
"Sure thing."
Yunji helped Riley carry her bags to his car and off they went.
"By the way, how was your trip here to Domino? How do you like the city?"
"It's better that what I see in those magazines uncle. It is very pretty." Riley gazed in awe of all the buildings she saw off the highway.
"By the way, your results show you are still at level 2 despite you taking level one. There's a separate area for international students. You will be taking your Japanese classes there after school. Is that ok with you?"
"Yes, sounds good."
The one building that stood out the most was the Kaiba Corp building. The KC logo as well as the building's shape and unique all glass exterior made it stand out. It made it look like it was shining. Yunji stopped near the double doors of Kaiba Corp.
"I would go with you, but I have to make preparations for the upcoming school term so I can't go with you. You can go home afterwards. Here's a map of where to go around here. See you soon Rei."
As Yunji drove off, Rei felt awkward holding a bento in her hands. With a deep breath, she entered uncharted territory.
Kaiba Corp
Riley couldn't help but stare in awe of the interior. 'Wow, I can't believe I'm in Kaiba Corp's main location.'
Riley got snapped out of her thoughts by the receptionist clearing her throat.
"How may I help you miss?"
Snapping back to reality, Riley walked over to the front desk.
"Yes, I am looking for Kari Castaneto. I am her daughter, Riley Castaneto. She forgot something, so I'm dropping it off."
The receptionist looked at the bento in her hands and nodded.
"Understood." She picked up the phone and after a few moments, her mother answered. "Yes Chinatsu?"
"Your daughter Riley is here to see you. Are you busy?"
"Not at the moment, she can come in." and with that, Chinatsu hung up the phone.
"Well, here's an access card that you can swipe before entering the elevator. She's on the top floor, second office to your left. I advise you to please not lose this since this is the only means of using our elevators. Also please sign in on the sign in sheet and please sign out when you are finished. Thank you and enjoy your day."
Riley nodded as she took the access card.
'Wow, tight security. Then again, I bet he has a lot of enemies and you can never be too careful.'
Riley swiped the card and the elevator doors opened. She clicked the last button and up she went.
Kari's Office
Working for Seto Kaiba was no joke. She had way more work than she was used to. Kari stretched as she gave her report to Kaiba to review. With a knock at the door, she knew who it was right away.
"Come in."
Riley walked nervously holding the bento.
"Hey Riley, come over here." Kari stood up and hugged her daughter. "I missed you so much. How was your flight?"
"Long, but good nonetheless. Here's your lunch mom."
"Thanks, I'm starving. I've been working like half the day on this report that I just submitted to Mr. Kaiba to review. How are you feeling? Are you tired? I'm off work in a few hours. You're welcome to nap on the couch if you're tired."
"Surprisingly I'm not tired. I kinda want to explore the city a bit if that's ok with you."
"Did you eat yet? Here, have some of my lunch."
"No thanks mom, I already ate on the plane thank you."
"Why don't you stay here for a few hours, you barely know your way around town, I don't want you lost."
"I think I'll manage. Thank you though. Uncle Yunji already gave me a map, so I think I should be ok."
"Ok, but don't be home too late."
Riley gave her mother one last hug before exiting her office. When Riley opened the door, there standing in front of her was Seto Kaiba himself.
He gave her a cold glare.
"Ms. Castaneto, if you're going to have guests, I should be the first to know. I demand to know who the hell she is." Kaiba walked past Riley without batting an eye.
His reputation did proceed him. Before her mother could answer, Riley didn't even think, just started talking. "Rude much. I'm her daughter, Riley. It was a last minute thing so don't you dare talk to my mother like that."
One of the qualities Kari loved about her daughter, which also was troublesome at times, was her independent spirit and she didn't want to lose her job over daughter showing her strong, independent side.
"Riley sweetie, I bet you're exhausted from your flight today. I'll see you at home later okay."
Kaiba completely ignored Kari's comment to her daughter and dropped a huge stack of papers on her desk.
"When they said you were one of the best marketing people in LA, I wanted in right away. It seems to me you aren't as good as they say. Redo your proposal and give me something by the end of the week."
This really set Riley off. As Kaiba turned around and walked towards the door, Riley let her temper take over.
"Who the fuck do you think you are, talking to my mother like that?! She has been working hard on that proposal and that's how you treat her?! Hasn't anyone ever taught you to respect your elders you fucking jerk?!"
Kari's eyes widened and immediately went to her daughter's side. Kaiba froze for a second and stared at the mother-daughter duo.
"In case you haven't noticed, whatever your name is, I own this company. I hire only the best employees to work here. If you want your precious mother here to continue having a job, I suggest you leave now, otherwise I'll call security to throw you out of here and give your mother the pink slip." His icy blue eyes met her brown ones.
"Riley, I'll see you later ok. Rest at home for today, I'll be okay. Don't worry about me at work." Kari hugged her daughter. "We will have a talk later." Her mother whispered in her ear in a dangerous tone.
As Riley walked out the door, she felt Kaiba's eyes burning at her back. If it wasn't for the fact her mother's job was on the line, she would have slapped him right then and there.
"Mr Kaiba, if you don't mind me saying this before you leave, don't you dare disrespect my daughter. I am a mother first before anything." Kari was unfazed by his cold demeanor.
Kaiba just ignored her and walked out the door.
Outside KC headquarters
'The nerve of that guy! He really is a fucking jerk like everybody says he is.'
Taking a deep breath, she looked at the map. She saw that Domino park was not too far from Kaiba Corp and decided to walk on over and check it out before going home for the day.
Domino Park
The park was nice. It felt nice to take a walk to release her frustration on her encounter with Seto Kaiba. As Riley turned a corner, she saw a group of kids pick on a boy with long, raven black hair.
"Hey fork up some money kid. Your brother makes a shit load of money I bet you have some on you." A kid with spiky hair pushed Mokuba on the ground trying to go through his pockets while his two other friends hit him.
Seeing this made Riley walk over; without a second thought, she walked over.
"Hey what is going on here? What are you doing to him?" Riley glared at the boys.
"Ooooh, look what we have here, a sexy lady. Well, miss, this brat has some money on him, we know it since he is a stuck up rich kid. He just keeps all the money for himself." A kid with green hair told her while attempting to hold Mokuba down and grab his wallet.
"Let him go." Riley gave them a death glare.
"Ha, excuse me lady. You shouldn't stick your nose in manly affairs, now get lost or we'll make you." A boy with blue hair retorted trying to scare her by giving her the meanest look.
"Please I can take you all on with my eyes closed. Let the kids go unless you want hurt." Riley gave a death glare of her own.
"Ha big words for a weak girl." The spiky haired boy laughed. "Get her boys." The other two boys shifted their attention from Mokuba to Riley.
Riley immediately got into her fighting stance and had her fists ready. She dodged a punch from the blue haired boy, did a low kick to the guy with green hair, and punched the blue haired boy straight in the gut. The boy with green hair put her in a lock, in which Riley responced by putting her chin down, elbowing the guy, and uppercutting his jaw. The blue boy got up and she did a jump kick to him.
"Now…" Riley glared at the spiky haired boy. "Let him go." Riley gave her coldest look.
With a look of fear on his face, he fled and his two other cronies followed with their tails between their legs. Immediately Riley ran over to the boy.
"Are you ok?" Riley touched Mokuba's shoulder gently.
"I'm fine, I could have taken them on." Mokuba had his head low.
"Hey kid, I just saved your life. Don't you think a thank you would be a nice? If I knew you were gonna be like this, I should have let them beat you up." Riley said irritably.
As she stood up to walk away, she heard a couple of cries.
"Thank *sniffle* you." Riley immediately went by and knelt by the boy and her irritation almost went away.
"What is your name?" Riiley handed him her handkerchief feeling sorry for him.
He shyly took it and replied, "My name is Mokuba. What's yours." He wiped his tears away.
"Hi Mokuba, I'm Riley. If you don't mind me asking, why did those boys attack you like that?"
"It's because my big brother owns a company."
"They are just jealous Mokuba. Besides I bet if your brother finds out, he'd make their lives a living hell." That comment made the little boy smile.
Riley sat next to Mokuba. She stared at his face and saw some dirt on his face.
"Here let me clean you up buddy." She took the same handkerchief from Mokuba and wiped the dirt off his face. "Do you need me to call anyone? I can call your brother if you have a phone on you."
"No it's ok, my big brother will pick me up."
"Alright I will wait with you until he arrives."
As if on cue, Riley saw a black limo pull up.
"Seto!" Mokuba ran excitedly to the limo as she saw a tall, brunette emerge from the vehicle.
Riley just cringed at the sight of the seeing the same person twice in one day.
Kaiba and Riley immediately glared at each other.
"You again!" Riley said angrily. "He's your brother Mokuba?"
Suddenly it hit her, Seto Kaiba did in fact have a little brother. Of course why didn't she see it before? The fact Mokuba told her that his older brother owned a company should have been the big give away.
"What a pleasant surprise. If I would have known I would have to see your irritating face again, I should have given your mother that pink slip."
"Seto, you met her already?" Mokuba asked shocked. "And what do you mean give a pink slip? Wait, is she the daughter of the new marketing director?" Mokuba looked back and forth between Seto and Riley.
"Just seeing you irritates the fuck out of me. I'm leaving." Riley stormed off.
"Good riddance! I hope to never to see you again."
Riley paid no mind and continued walking to the entrance of the park.
Limo
"Mokuba, what did I say about talking to strangers." Seto crossed his arms sternly.
"She helped me out." Mokuba replied nervously knowing very well that the cuts and bruises would be evident.
Kaiba panicked when he saw the minor cuts and bruises on Mokuba's face and hands. "Are you hurt anywhere?!"
He also noticed Mokuba was holding something in his hands.
"Mokuba what are you holding?" Seto asked.
"Oh no, I forgot to give this to her. I don't know if I will even see her again." Mokuba freaked out realizing he still had Riley's handkerchief.
Seto noticed it had a mix of dirt and a little blood on it. She did a good job of cleaning his face up despite her being a bitch in his opinion.
Seto had a nagging feeling he would see more of now that he knew that she was the daughter of Kari.
Riley
Yunji was kind enough to mark the location of the house with a red x. As Riley was walking home, she realized that she forgot to grab her handkerchief back from Mokuba due to her irritation of seeing Kaiba.
'That motherfucker irritates the shit out of me.'
Riley ignored the boxes in the crowded living room with her stuff and went straight to bed. The jet lag finally took over her as she drifted off to sleep.
A/N: I like the general direction of where is my story is going I'm just going to tweak it a little bit. I hope you all still review and like it. I won't be able to post as much but I will try to update when I can.
