Chaz marched across the long, green, stretch of field, his army trailing behind him. He stopped, and turned. "Farewell my friends." The nodded and returned the send-off. Chaz pulled himself into the car and rode off into the crepuscule.

Some time near evening the next day, Chaz entered a bar in a small town. He motioned to a waitress to bring him a drink. She hurried off, and soon a girl of about 14 entered, and brought him his drink. He took it roughly and took 2 large swigs of it, then put it down, the empty glass clattering against the wood.

"More." The girl nodded, and filled his cup again. He drank it again, and looked at her. She was young, about 4 years younger than him. "What is your name, girl." He said. She turned, and stared him in the eye fiercely. "Sam. " He nodded.

So the young girls name was Sam. The way she had glared at him, though, surprised him. Here he was, a rich, rich prince, and she had glared at him as if he had insulted her.

He decided he wanted her. He could use a servant. He stood and reached for his wallet. He was going to buy her. Normally, buying human beings wasn't allowed. But he was so rich, he could probably pull it off. He motioned to the waitress serving the man next to him, and said "Bring me the Boss." She nodded absently, and ran off.

Soon, A woman entered. She was slightly large, and wore a lot of jewelry. "Is that waitress your daughter?" He asked, gesturing to Sam. She glanced at Sam, then back at him. "Yes, she's my adopted daughter, and I promise, whatever she did to you we can pay for or-" She said in a rush, but he cut her off. "I want to buy her. " The woman closed her mouth, which had stayed open when he interrupted her. " You want to buy-...you want to buy her?" She said, raising a heavily penciled eyebrow. "Yes. I will pay any amount of money." Chaz saw a flash of greed in the woman's eye. She leaned closer. "Sixty Thousand." She said, the smell of beer deep in her breath. "Deal." Chaz said flatly.

The woman grinned, and then lifted up her hand, waving at Sam. "Come here daughter." Sam rolled her eyes, and put on a fierce look the minute she saw Chaz next to her mother.

She walked over, and first addressed her mother. "I am not your daughter. I was ADOPTED. You could never be my mother." Then she addressed Chaz. "What do you want?" She said fiercely. "Yes, Sam, dearie, You're going to be traveling with this young man." Her mother said. "What?" Sam said, glaring at her mother. "What did you do, Sell me as a slave?" her mother pursed her lips. "No, just as a ..." She searched for the right word. "Companion." Sam scoffed, and her mother ran her hand down Sam's cheek. Sam slapped it. The woman rolled her eyes.

"Listen here. You're going with this guy. You don't have a choice." She said. She was obviously drunk, thought Chaz. Oh well. Sam scoffed, but Chaz motioned to a man behind him, who grabbed Sam roughly, holding her wrists behind her back. Chaz walked out of the building, after handing the woman the money. The man followed, holding Sam tightly. Sam didn't know it now, but she was never going to see her mother, or that building, again.
