A/N: I wrote this for the Father's Day Special Challenge. It's about Draco and Scorpius right before Scorpius gets on the train.
A Parent's Job
Draco stood next to his wife while she chatted with an old friend from Hogwarts. His son, Scorpius stood on his other side. Draco sighed bored with the idle chatter. He looked around and noticed Potter coming in with his wife and children. He gave a terse nod in acknowledgement when Potter nodded at him.
Draco looked down at Scorpius and a sudden thought occurred to him. He leaned over and quietly told his Astoria where he would be. She nodded absently and went on chatting with her friend.
Draco put his has hand on his son's shoulder. "Come with me," he said when Scorpius looked at him.
Draco led Scorpius over to a secluded area of the platform, which was saying something considering how crowded it was.
Draco squatted down so he was eye level with his son. "Scorpius, I want to tell you something I wish my father had had the courage to tell me. I'm proud of you, son. I will always be proud of you. No matter what house you get into, no matter what you do in life, I'm proud of you. And…and I will always…always…love you." Draco choked up while trying to say the last part.
Scorpius looked at his father. "You'll even be proud if I'm in Hufflepuff?"
Draco stood up to his full height. "No, son. You'll be disowned." At the look of terror on his son's face, Draco took pity on him. "Of course I'll be proud. It'll mean you're a loyal friend and will fight for all you're worth when you get mad."
Scorpius looked down at his feet. "Or it could mean that I don't fit anywhere else and no one will like me."
"Is that what you're scared of?" Draco asked. Scorpius nodded and Draco pulled him into a hug. "Scorpius, don't worry. You will have friends." Draco pulled back so Scorpius could see his face. "Also, you will always fit right here." He pointed to his chest right over his heart.
They heard the train whistle. "Go say goodbye to your mother. It's time to go."
He watched Scorpius run over to his mother and throw his arms around her waist. He walked over and helped Scorpius get his trunk into a compartment before giving him one last hug. "Remember what I said, Scorpius. Have a good time." He jumped off the train onto the platform just before the train started moving. He watched as Scorpius leaned out a window and waved at them. Draco waved until he saw Scorpius pull his head back into the train compartment. He stood watching the train until he could no longer see it.
Astoria walked up behind Draco and put her hand on his shoulder. He threw propriety out the window and turned and wrapped her in a hug.
"He'll be alright, Draco," she told him. "You don't have to worry."
"I know, but I'll always worry." Draco pulled back and looked into her face. He saw something in her eyes and smirked. "And so will you."
Astoria turned away and said, "Yes, well it's a mother's job to worry."
Draco was still smirking as they apparated home.
