Gabriel stared at Michael. His big brother had to be joking right? There was no way that Michael really expected him to take care of a sick baby brother. Gabriel couldn't be in charge of rearing the practice swords much less taking care of someone who was sick! That was Raphael's job! Gabriel huffed and stomped through the infirmary and snarled at everyone who passed by him. Why couldn't Raphly take care of the damn baby angel? Huffing and puffing and generally making his displeasure known to everyone in the vicinity he entered the room of his baby brother. He looked at the bed and noticed it was empty. He glared at the bed and had turned to storm out the room when he heard a hiccup. He whipped around so fast he fell and landed painfully on his ass. He pouted and searched for where the sound had come from.
He found the source and damned Michael all over again. His baby brother had to be the cutest little thing he'd ever seen. It was a well-kept secret of his that he had this weakness for cute things. Unfortunately Michael knew about it and often used it against him. One would think that it would be Lucifer who would take advantage of his weakness, but no it was actually Michael, the sneaky little devil. The baby angel had huge purple wings that were too big for his body and the bluest eyes that matched his wings in places. Those eyes were filled with tears and Gabriel instantly wanted to make them go away forever.
His wings twitched when his baby brother shrunk away from him in fear. He walked over to the angel instead of sauntering like he normally would. When a loud clap of thunder shook the room the angel shrieked in fear and began to cry even harder. Gabriel ran to his brother and picked him up and smothered him to his chest wrapping his own wings around the little angel. He made shushing sounds and when the angel continued to cry he jigged up and down trying to calm him with motion. HE was frantic now trying to think of something to calm this little brother down. As another clap of thunder scared the daylights out of the angel in his arms he remembered something Raphael had sung to him when had been afraid too. After Raphael had sung it to him he had not been afraid of storms any more.
"Little child, be not afraid
though rain pounds harshly against the glass
like an unwanted stranger, there is no danger
I am here tonight
little child, be not afraid
though thunder explodes and lightning flash
illuminates your tear-stained face
I am here tonight
and someday you'll know
that nature is so
the same rain that draws you near me
falls on rivers and land
on forests and sand
makes the beautiful world that you'll see
in the morning
little child, be not afraid
though storm clouds mask your beloved moon
and its candlelight beams, still keep pleasant dreams
I am here tonight
little child, be not afraid
though wind makes creatures of our trees
and their branches to hands, they're not real, understand
and I am here tonight
for you know, once even I was a
little child, and I was afraid
but a gentle someone always came
to dry all my tears, trade sweet sleep for fears
and to give a kiss goodnight
well now I am grown
and these years have shown
that rain's a part of how life goes
but it's dark and it's late
so I'll hold you and wait
'til your frightened eyes do close
and I hope that you'll know...
everything's fine in the morning
the rain'll be gone in the morning
but I'll still be here in the morning."
He was surprised when he found the angel sleeping peacefully in his arms curled up into him. HE smiled at the dark headed boy and land him down into his bed. That was when Raphael walked in and glareing told him to,
"Get out of here Gabriel! Knucklehead, don't you have music lessons right now?" Gabriel jumped up and ran out the room. Man, Lucifer would kill him if he was late to music lessons!
