Just so you know, this was a writing prompt in English on 9/11. I thought it would be a good story told from Alfred's point of view. So enjoy, and don't cry too much.
The sirens. So many sirens. Firefighters, police, medics, volunteers, random, kind people, all sifting through the debris. All trying to find any survivors. Survivors from those air planes. From the tower. From the attack.
All my life, I had never seen so much destruction. So many lives taken.
So many families, broken.
Friends who would never reunite.
Tourists who would never come home.
Couples who would never love again.
I started sifting through the rubble, finding earrings, unopened wedding ring boxes, textbooks never used. So many lost dreams, people, and hopes.
But there, in the middle of it all, people gathered. They gathered around the tiniest sliver of hope. And that hope was our flag. The American flag flying high over the land of the free, the home of the brave.
And they started to sing. "Ooh, say can you see?..."
There you go. Sorry it was so sad. Hope you didn't cry too much! And reviews are greatly appreciated.
