Hope
She didn't think that something like this would happen to her.
The day started as always; go to school, practice with the team, student council work... nothing new, just the same old routine. Valentine's Day didn't worry her too much; she knew her cooking was awful by just looking at the guys' faces when they ate something she had made, so no chocolate for her team. One less thing to worry about, to be honest.
The school day was over and sports clubs were training, Riko was waiting for her boys in the gym while doing some paperwork for the student council. She was lucky they let her turn them in a little later. The coach didn't took notice of her surroundings until she heard a yell coming from outside. Walking to the door she found her team, surrounded by quite the menacing aura.
"I hate you!" Hyūga said, jealousy emanating from him. "How did you manage to get so many boxes?"
"Calm down, Hyūga…" Kiyoshi tried to placate him. "I'm sure Riko has chocolate for us…"
"Shut up! I don't want to think about it! I don't want to die!"
"What's going on?" the coach asked; for some reason her boys tensed and she didn't know why.
"Nothing! Nothing is happening!"
"…Okay." She turned around and entered the gym. "Go change!"
"Yes!"
The afternoon went on without any disturbances, but sometimes she would catch the boys staring at her. Like waiting for something, some with fear while others looked curious. The practice came to an end and she bid goodbye to everyone. The team looked a little disappointed—where were their chocolates?— Even so, they changed and left.
"Err…Riko?" Kiyoshi said while he watched her put her things into her bag.
"Yes?" she answered, her back still facing the other.
"Aren't you forgetting something?"
"No. Why do you ask?"
"Ah… never mind, then…"
"Ok. See you tomorrow, Teppei!" Giving him a smile, the coach left the gym, as it was Kiyoshi's turn to lock it.
Nearing the school entrance, however, a hand grabbed Riko by the shoulder and spun her. Surprised, she looked at the intruder—no, wait, it was Kagami.
"What's wrong Kagami-kun?" she eyed him curiously. His eyes reflected a little bit of sadness as he spoke.
"No-nothing," he stammered, turning red. "I-I…"
"You…" she tried to help him. The redhead being shy was new for her.
"I want chocolate!"
"Err…"
"Please!"
"I'm sorry. I have nothing to give you. I didn't make or buy any." She apologized.
"Why?" He somehow looked hurt, and the coach blinked.
'What the hell is wrong with him today?' The girl was surprised with this new side of her number ten.
"I´m not stupid. I know you hate everything I cook, so it's better to stop before it was too late. It won't benefit us if I gave any of you food poisoning."
Kagami frowned softly, but nonetheless bowed his head to her. "Sorry to bother you…"
"... Kagami-kun, what's wrong?" Finally, Riko decided to press further with the other. "Something's upsetting you, right?"
Kagami paused, hesitating with his response. "I never had Valentine chocolates made for me, so I hoped…You know…" he blushed more, rubbing the back of his head as he glanced away. Yours.
A pang of guilt hit her. 'So he never received any homemade chocolate when he was studying abroad.' she sighed.
"Okay, follow me to the store and help me out. We're doing chocolates for everyone in the team." Riko grinned and jabbed a thumb over her shoulder. The taller male brightened up instantly.
"Yes, Coach!"
As they entered the store, Riko couldn't help but feel curious about why he had suddenly asked her for chocolates. Tilting her head innocently, Riko glanced at the male. "Why do you want chocolate from me?" She asked, holding several milk-chocolate bars. Kagami seemed to stumble over his steps, red instantly burning his cheeks.
"I-I…. like-e yo-u." He stammered, deciding that there was nothing to lose.
"What?!" Her eyes widened and her voice went louder, staring at him in shock. Her own cheeks reddened intensely and she was doing her best to not run out of the store.
"I like… you." He repeated more confidently, staring down at the petite girl.
"...Since when?" Making sure she wasn't just imagining things, the coach decided to press against the matter further.
"The Winter Cup…" Nervous in his answer, the player dearly wished that he was back in his apartment.
"Why? Why do you like me?" Taking a step closer to him, the pressure seemed to back Kagami up in a corner. The teenager coughed awkwardly and took the chocolates from her hands, moving towards the cashier.
"I don't know. I suppose…that because it's you…" He muttered, ignoring the girl's jabbing stare.
"That doesn't help a lot, you know…" Irritated that he had paid for her, it had already been done. She'd try to pay him back somehow, but the sudden love confession sent her nearly reeling on her feet. She even stepped closer to the male as they walked out of the store.
"Sorry, Coach." Kagami responded, though he had nothing more to say. He was embarrassed and reclining into his little shell, it seemed.
Sensing the other's nervousness, Riko sighed. "Nah, don't mind it. Some things are not easy to explain."
The rest of the trip was silent until they reached his apartment.
"We're here." He said, opening the door.
"Ah, excuse me then."
She left her bag and shoes, put on a pair of slippers and went to the bathroom to wash her hands. After doing so, she went to the kitchen, where the taller male stood waiting.
"So… Do you like chocolate hearts?" She asked, attempting at bringing the atmosphere away from the awkwardness from earlier. She didn't want him to be fretful over nothing, even if she desperately wanted to know the reasoning behind his like for her.
"... I do." He replied softly, glancing off to the side.
"Well, Kagami-kun, then we're making them!" Riko grinned, rolling her sleeves to her elbows.
It took about three hours to make the right mix for the hearts and to fill the heart shaped moulds. The next step was to chill the moulds in a freezer for an additional two hours. By the end of the process, they were covered with chocolate staining their hands and face.
"What a mess…" the brunette said while rubbing her hands with a dishcloth. Kagami eyed her, particularly a stain in her face, near her lips. He waited too long for the moment to appear and kiss her. Now he could.
The cowardly tiger would make his move.
"Coach."
"Yeah?"
"Sorry, but I'm not sorry at the same time."
"What do you me-" she was interrupted when his lips pressed against hers in a bold move. Riko squeaked and shifted, but he opened her mouth with his tongue and explored her cavity. She tried to battle him with her own tongue but his won over easily; he had experience in kissing while she didn't. Heat was pooling inside her stomach and running through her veins.
The girl's mind went blank for a moment, and then she reacted by shoving him aside. He stared at her as she panted, clutching the front of her shirt. She was confused, but strangely enough… she liked it. Blushing in embarrassment at the thought, she glanced up at Kagami, only to be surprised by the fire in his eyes.
"I like you. No, I love you." He grabbed her by the waist, hoisted the girl on the counter and pressed his lips against hers again. This kiss was more demanding than the first, she could tell.
Where did this Kagami come from? He devoured her with unseen passion. No, it was just like he played basketball: intense like a tornado. She moaned when he caressed her hips while his mouth sucked her neck. 'Dammit, why is he so good at this?' After that, any thought processing was lost when the power forward bit the base of her neck, leaving a bruise. She hoped to leave from his flat with her virginity intact.
She hoped.

It was no surprise that hoping had been futile. Not that she minded.
