I've always wanted that Beckett/Alexis episode ever since season 5! Didn't even have to be an episode lol, a conversation would have been just as good. Although, I LOVE how it was little things that showed how close they were now or could possibly be growing. I started noticing it during Target/Hunt. STILL lol, I had to write a one shot on it, just to calm my mind and all the "what ifs" that are running through it. Reviews are always nice and appreciated.
Her Words
She didn't know what to do. Nights like these were supposed to relax her. She had come home from work, had a relaxing bath, and got right into bed. She didn't have to put up with his child play. She didn't have to pry his fingers from her waist before and after her shower. He hadn't bugged her from the moment she stepped into the house to the moment she laid in bed. She's supposed to be enjoying her time alone. She's supposed to be enjoying his time away. She's supposed to be sleep, but she's too busy tossing and turning in the bed. His side was cold, and she couldn't sleep because of that. She pulled herself out of bed and padded through the house and into the kitchen. She grabbed a bowl out of the cabinet and the ice cream out of the freezer. She scooped a few spoons of chocolate into the bowl and turned to place it back in the freezer.
"Can I get a scoop?"
She jumped slightly and turned around to see a red head smiling at her. The young woman would soon be her step daughter, and she's watched her grow up so much in the past 5 years that, in a way, she already feels that certain connection with her.
"Of course. Let me get you a spoon," Kate smiled
Alexis took a seat on the stool across from her soon to be step mom and smiled when she handed her a spoon and the almost empty carton of ice cream. A comfortable silence fell over them. Kate never pushed herself on Alexis. She knew Alexis had her problems with her in the past, and she hoped they were pass them but she never pushed herself in case they weren't.
"I miss him too," Alexis suddenly said
"Wha-"
Alexis gave her a knowing look and a smile.
Kate smiled, "I don't know, the house just seems so empty without him here annoying me in it."
Alexis just laughed in response.
"I thought I would be able to get some sleep, but without him in it, the bed-," Kate stopped herself after realizing she was talking to her fiancé's daughter about sleeping in bed with him.
Alexis laughed, "it's okay Kate. I do know you two sleep in bed together. Just like I know you do other things, since my dad let it slip last week that he wouldn't be upset if you ended up pregnant."
Kate's face reddened in embarrassment. Alexis could almost feel the pain Kate was going to inflict on her father when he got back.
"It's okay Kate. I kind of agree with him you know," Alexis admitted
Kate's eyes widened. That was the last thing she expected her to say.
"Well let's just get pass the wedding next month first."
Silence fell over them again, but this time it was an awkward silence. Kate was the first to break it this time.
"Alexis, I know I should have already asked you this, but-"
"I'm happy you guys are getting married."
Kate didn't know how to respond.
"My dad really loves you."
She remained silent.
"And I do too," Alexis admitted
Kate's eyes widened and her breath caught in her throat.
"This conversation is long over due huh?" Alexis chuckled nervously
Kate nodded.
"Kate look, I know I haven't been the best supporter when it comes to you and my dad's relationship, but my father was in deep before you were. I didn't like that. Not only was he risking his life walking into 12th every morning for the past 4 years, he was also risking his heart. He put it all on the table for you so many times, and you left him standing there each time. I understand you were going through your own thing and you were afraid, but you were controlling his life without even knowing it. Part of me thinks you did and just didn't care. But what amazes me about you is that you push everybody away, but you're always there for them. That's why I've never really disliked you. Whenever my dad was at his worst, you wouldn't stop until Richard Castle was Richard Castle again. That's when I realized, you loved him ever since he loved you, you just didn't realize it or you were trying you're hardest not to. Not only did you love him, but you loved me too. Well I like to think you did anyway."
"Alexis, of course I loved you and I still do. I love you even more now."
"And that's why I'm happy you guys are getting married. You've always been there for me Kate. Always. I can't repay you for that, and I don't know how to. You've met my mom. Meredith is more of a friend, you know, shop and gossip. She has her moments yeah, but Kate, with you I get so much more. You're always there. Remember a couple days after dad and I got home from Paris and you caught me crying in my room. You didn't speak, and you didn't have to. When you wrapped your arms around me and pulled me into your chest I felt like nothing could harm me. I still remember how it felt to have you sing me to sleep. Not to mention when you laid me down and got up off the bed and I asked you to stay and you said-"
"I'm only going to close the door. I'm not leaving you. I never will." Kate repeated herself
"I believed you, and you've never gave me a reason to doubt you. When you walked into my dad's life, not only did you give him someone to love, you gave me ... you gave me a mom."
Kate couldn't stop the tears that started rushing down her face.
"I mean yeah I have Grams, but I've always wanted that mother/daughter relationship that my friends have. You gave me that. You're the mom I always wanted."
Kate was desperately trying to wipe her face because she was basically breaking down right now. This was the last thing she expected Alexis to confess to her right now.
Alexis gave her a moment to get herself together. She understood why she was reacting this way. She did kind of just throw a lot at her at one time. She's been waiting to tell Kate this for awhile, and once she starting talking, she couldn't stop.
"Alexis," Kate tried her best to slow her breathing down
"Alexis, I love you so much. So much that it scares me. I've never wanted to overstep myself, so I've always been worried about what I do or say. I've never wanted you to think I was trying to replace your mom by forcing myself in your life."
"Kate, let's be honest. I love my mom, I do, but my relationship with her can't be compared to ours. You know more about me and I trust you more with who I am in these past years than my entire life with her. Kate you don't need to be scared to be my mom, you already are."
"Alexis, I love you so much sweetheart. Oh my god," Kate said getting off her stool and hurrying around the bar and pulling her into a big bear hug.
"I love you too!" Alexis smiled letting some tears fall from her eyes
"Well thank god!"
They both turned around still in each other's arms and came face to face with Martha.
"I myself have been wondering when this conversation was going to happen. Katherine you know I love you and already see you as the daughter I never had. I personally know Richard has been worrying his little head about you two, so I'm so happy about this." Martha smiled while wrapping her arms around them.
Suddenly the sound of keys from the other side of the door startled them. They all looked on as the knob turned and missing member of their family stepped over the threshold.
"Dad!"
"Rick!"
"Richard!"
Alexis was the first to tear herself away from the other women and hurry over to the welcoming arms of her father.
"Daddy!"
"Hi pumpkin," Rick smiled breathing in her scent. The scent he's went too long without smelling.
"I thought you were coming back Friday?" She smiled, excited to be in the arms of her father.
"I was, but it's already been 4 days too long. I missed you!" He pulled her back in for a hug
"I missed you more! I'm so glad your home!"
Kate just stood there. She didn't know whether to attack him or jump for joy. He was home. He was really home. Home. The place she shared with him, his daughter, and his mother, and, to be honest, she wouldn't want it any other way.
"Richard, honey welcome home!" Martha said giving her son a hug
"Thank you mother. What are you guys doing up? I was hoping to surprise all of you out of your bed with my new toy," he smiled grabbing some kind of remote control gadget out of his bag
"It's a shame we missed that, but to answer your question, I'll leave Katherine and Alexis to do that. Goodnight," Martha smiled as she proceeded up the stairs and into her bedroom
"Actually I don't think that's my place to say, so I'll head to bed too. But tomorrow, adventures! Yes?" She said walking back into the arms of her father
"Of course. Goodnight pumpkin," he kissed her forehead and released her.
Alexis made her way over to Kate.
"Goodnight mom," she smiled pulling her in for a tight hug
"Goodnight sweetheart. I love you," Kate smiled mimicking Rick's actions and kissing her on her forehead
"I love you too," she smiled before she left her parents alone and went up to bed
"Did she just call you mom?" He was speechless. What the hell had happened while he was gone?
Kate slowly walked up to him and wrapped her arms around his neck, "you're home!"
"Yes I am."
"I can't tell you how much I've missed you"
"Oh really? How about you just show me?" He smirked
"I can do that," she smiled before pulling him toward the bedroom
"MOM!"
Kate and Castle turned around to see the redhead standing at the top of the steps leaning down.
"I was wondering, can we go shopping tomorrow after my class in the morning?" The young girl said hopeful
"Of course, sweetheart!"
Alexis smiled at Kate and popped her head back up the stairs and Kate pulled Castle further into their bedroom. He didn't know what happened, but, whatever it was, he was more than glad that it happened!
Yeah, it's kind of cheesy lol, but I don't think I could imagine it going any other way. Please review and let me know what you guys think.
