I was watching whatever nonsense was on television in the middle of the night. I couldn't bring myself to sleep with all the stuff on my mind. Erica, Boyd, the hunters, the alpha pack, the potential threats were endless so television was the best distraction I had.
Well it was distracting me until I heard the creak of the staircase. My eyes flash from the screen to the metal spiral staircase and I see him.
Isaac, my shy but strong beta, sat on the bottom step looking down at the floor in embarrassment. I shift from being sprawled on the couch to sitting up leaving a space open. I know Isaac would never ask to stay with me because he thinks it makes him weak but if I offer he may accept it.
So I turn back the television and casually lay my arm along the back of the couch. Not two minutes later Isaac is walking over towards the couch. I look at him and can see his cheeks are stained with dry tears. A nightmare must have woken him up. His gaze meets mine and all I have to do is look from the empty seat next to me and back to him for him to practically dive onto the couch with me. He puts his head in my lap and curls his legs up to his chest. My arm moves from the back of the couch to rub soothing circles on his back. My other hand carding gently through his hair quickly lulls him to sleep as he nuzzles his face into my legs.
I have been so focused on all the threats we have been facing that I have forgotten to comfort the person I do have with me. Well not anymore. Right now Isaac is my main priority.
