Summary: Abarai Renji never did believe in happy endings. Renji x Rukia, Ichigo x Rukia, oneshot drabble

Just something I felt like doing without making a major commitment or anything. It is very short, the shortest thing I've ever written. My first Bleach fic, by the way, so be kind.

Imaginary

Abarai Renji hated fairy tales.

He had heard of the tale of the knight in shining armor, riding on a white stallion, saving the beautiful princess from whatever harm might befall her, and then, ultimately, defeating the dragon that threatened his love for said princess. Then, both knight and princess would be tied together forever in holy matrimony and live happily ever after.

The stories themselves were not too appealing to his taste, but it was who told the fantastically cliche tales that he loved the most.

He would remember the days back when he and one certain raven haired female were best friends, and how her eyes would light up every time she recalled one of her favorite tales, passed down to her through some other romance-crazed girl.

He just assumed that she liked them for the adventure, not the romance.

But, as she was telling one of her favorite stories, he would listen most intently and watch her different facial expressions, when his mind wasn't really on the story, it was on her.

Then later that night, he would dream that he was the knight, saving his princess from that dangerous dragon.

And, embarrassingly enough, his princess would be her.

The dreams turned increasingly more intimate when he became older.

He and his princess would be married, and later that night, they would connsumate their relationship. He would caress her breasts tenderly, and kiss every inch of her body with her moans of delight ringing in his ears. And she would call out his name in ecstacy while entwining her fingers in his red locks, arching her back as he entered her.

The next time he would see her after dreaming such lewd things, he would often blush the color of his hair and say he had to leave.

He was happy with dreams for the time being, until a new figure emerged in them.

It would usually happen after the two of them made love, and it wasn't in the same time sequence as in his previous dreams. His mind's eye would suddenly flash, and there it was.

His princess, and a taller man with a head full of spiky orange hair, standing together, their backs facing him and the wind blowing, whipping their hair around them. And it would just stay that way for a few seconds. He would stare in disbelief and awe as his princess planted a kiss on the cheek of the orange haired man.

It was usually at this point that he was noticed, and the raven haired woman would turn around and give him a serene, yet knowing smile, and voice his name in the clear, pure tone that he loved, as if acknowledging his presence.

"Renji."

Then the two figures would begin to walk off, and he would scream and scream until his throat begged for him to stop, pounding his fists against the dirt in a frenzied attempt to get her to notice how he was feeling.

They were walking away.

She was leaving him.

At this point, he would always wake up in a cold sweat with an aching feeling deep in his chest.

Abarai Renji never did believe in happy endings.

End.
