The war had raged on for so many years, the Altmer had extended a branch to their neighbors, Khajiit and the Bosmer. Yet the war raged on, and the battles that the proud Altmer had thought would be childs play set them sometimes victorious, but many times defeated.
Queen Ayrenn sat in her chambers on a day like any other, pondering how many of her people she had lost and wondering how she could win this war.
"We have to destroy those pitiful Dark Elves and their Nord and Argonian companion worms," the Queen's Chancellor bellowed with rage. Another battle had gone astray, but this man seemed to think that the simple fact of the Altmer being the superior race would be what determined the war. "The Daggerfall Covenant is simply full of Barbarians, the Orcs and the Bretons whom can't even develop a kingdom by themselves and the foreign Redguards who think they can take our lands."
"There is more to war than simply being a strong race!" Yelled the Captain of the Guard. "As much as you would hate to admit it, the two alliances are strong and have beaten us more times than I would like"
"Then maybe we need a new captain," the Chancellor was glaring at the Captain now.
"Maybe YOU would like to lead the war," the Captain yelled back.
Tensions in the room were high ever since another fort had fallen to the Ebonheart Pact.
"Stop your bickering," the Queen commanded. "It's enough for one day that we stand here bickering. Captain, head back to the front lines! Chancellor, go back to your duties. This council is adjourned for the day!" The Captain of the Guard, the Chancellor and several others left the room, leaving the Queen alone, except for her personal guards.
"So much confusion in one little court, and no time to change anything…" one of the guards whispered.
"What?" The Queen hadn't even paid attention to the fact that they were still standing there.
"It's no place of mine to judge as a guard, but as a member of the Ebonheart Pact," The man lifted up his hood and lunged toward the Queen with his dagger drawn. The guards around him tried to react, but at a pace that couldn't keep up with the surprise.
Almost immediately an arrow plunged through the man's back and dropped him to the ground. In shock, the Queen and her guards looked up at the doorway and saw a group at the doorway of three people.
"Halt!" One of the guards yelled out to the new intruders.
One of them, a Bosmer, put his bow down and the others took a step back and bowed to the ground.
A few moments passed in silence as the Queen rapidly decided what to do next.
Finally, "Take the body away, you are dismissed." The Queen said as she looked at her guards.
"But, your majesty…" a guard started, but was cut off
"I am clearly in more capable hands right now, you are dismissed!" The Queen commanded again.
With not even another whisper the guards left the room with the assassin's body in tow.
"Who are you?" The Queen spoke now to the group of three who were still kneeling at the doorway.
"We are among those in this kingdom who wish to fight! We are the shadows of the kingdom who are too often overlooked and we are the shadows that will stab at the backs of our enemies, we are the shadows who will devour armies. Your majesty, we are the Shadows of Aldmeri."

A/N: This was a back story I wrote for a Play Station 4 guild, "The Shadows of Aldmeri". It is by no means lore for the guild, but just my thoughts as I wait for the console version of the game. (if you're interested in joining the guild, then go ahead and apply on the website . ?gid=327413 and put the name Wuufus as the person who referred you.)
