Prolouge

It's been about a full year since the end of the Sandwing succession. The little prophecy of destiny turned out to be a big sham, but the five dragonets decided to save the day anyways. Brave little things.

I shift my wings into a more comfortable position as I turn onto my other side. I was lying in bed in my dim candlelit chamber, as I usually would when I wanted to think. Or to be left alone. The list was endless actually. My chamber did have windows. But I usualy had their curtains drawn only at night, the most beautiful time to truly see the sky and its moonlit kingdom just below.

But back onto the topic, the happy go lucky dragonets decided to start a school to help the dragon tribes unite in peace.

And Jade Mountain Academy has only begun.

But I didn't want to go. My two cousins were going as well, but at least I wasn't complaining as much as them. I just wanted to stay in the deep shadows of my chamber or, "room". And sort out how my life will be in the future. I have a big destiny planned ahead by my ancestors but we can get to that later.

My mother says that the three of us must go in order to help with the "peace maintaining", a new rule that the dragonets came up with that my mother and I aren't very fond of.

I hear the clicking of talons just outside my door that is either a guard, my cousins, or my mother.

And survey says, "Brightfire, you really shouldn't be such a block of ice and maybe train a little before you go!" My mother.

She sticks her massive head in the door way, soon followed by her elegant and muscular body.

The cold radiating from her scales immediately chills the room.

Did I mention that my mother was an Icewing? Not just any Icewing, but the great Queen Glacier herself. And I think you can guess who my two cousins are but i'll tell you anyways, Icicle and Winter are my closest cousins. My siblings and other cousins however including Icicle and Winter, have never come as close as my mother an I have.

Of course, she has other daughters but all they seem to care about is the throne. And how soon they will have to kill her for it.

While I on the other talon, Have always been different.

"Brightfire," She nudges my flank and blows a tiny plume of her icy breath onto my stomach.

"YYYYYOOOWWWW!" I yelp shooting out of bed into the air.

"Quit your hollering and come down here!" She demands, an ammused look in her pit black eyes.

I flutter down to sit next to her rubbing the spot she blew her cold ice breath onto.

"Listen Brightfire, I know that you are not wanting to go to the school but," She pauses as I sigh deeply.

"Mother, It's not really the school that i'm reluctant about," I answer to her nagging.

"Great! then you should have no problem with attending." Her eyes shine. She stands and strides to the door. She turns her head to face me, "Think of it as doing it for me," and she's gone.

But how can I tell her or anyone about the vision I saw that makes my heart stop cold at just the image of it?
