Chapter One: Remembering

Lily

When I was growing up, I always felt overshadowed by my older sister, Petunia. She wanted all of

the attention, from our parents, the kids at school, and even people on the street. Everyone knew

me as Petunia's little sister. On my eleventh birthday I finally got the spotlight.

The morning of my birthday, I came downstairs to find my parents and Petunia in the kitchen.

Petunia was sitting at the table flipping through a magazine, while my parents cooked breakfast. We

had a tradition to cook a nice breakfast on birthdays and holidays. When I stepped into the bright

kitchen, my parents looked up and wished me a happy birthday. Smiling I looked hopefully toward

Petunia. She mumbled a happy birthday without looking up from the magazine. It hurt me that she

barely talked to me especially on my big day. My thoughts were cut short by my mom telling us

breakfast was ready. As we were silently eating, an owl flew through our kitchen window with a

letter attached to its claw. I jumped up from my seat to get the letter before my sister. It was

addressed to me, and oddly enough with my current location too. When I read the first line of the

letter, my eyes opened wide and I almost fainted. I started jumping up and down yelling "guess

what? guess what?" over and over again until my dad yelled my name over my voice. He rarely

raised his voice so I quickly shut my mouth. I excitedly told my parents and Petunia what the letter

said, that I was a witch! I always wondering if magic existed and now I know. I was to go to a

school far away named Hogwarts and study magic. At first, my parents thought it was a joke, but

when they saw Diagon Alley and all of the strange people and stores, they believed it too. Petunia

was furious that I got my parents attention while she was ignored. She became jealous and the only

time she talked to me was to call me a freak. It hurt at first and still does, but I've learned now to

ignore her. I still remember the first time I stepped onto the Hogwarts Express and dragged my

trunk down the hallway searching for a compartment. The only one I could find that wasn't

completely full, was one with two other girls that looked my age. Those girls would become my best

friends through my Hogwarts years. They were by my side through everything and always had my

back. In return, I did the same.

As I step onto the Hogwarts Express seven years later, I still remember that day as if it were

yesterday. Hogwarts changed my life. Hogwarts is my home.

chapter longer.
