Disclaimer: I don't own the magical word of Harry Potter, as much as I wish otherwise.

"So let me get this straight. You expect me to just walk out there and die for you, no questions asked?" Potters face gave away his emotions clear as ever, shock, disbelief, and as always, anger.

"Of course not Harry, you can ask me whatever you wish and I shall do my best to answer."

Severus could not believe what he was hearing. Dumbledore, supposed leader of the light, had requested he stay for his meeting with Potter and proceeded to talk about the Dark Lords Horcruxes and then continued on to point out the peculiarities of Potters scar, which is somehow the container of the aforementioned soul piece. Which, in turn, supposedly required Potters death.

"What a load of hogwash." He finally spoke to Dumbledore, after processing the information dropped on him.

"Severus, it may seem that way, but it is the complete truth." Dumbledore told him solemnly as if he too, regretted what he thought had to happen.

"Potter, you may go." Despite Potters hatred of him he clearly didn't want to be here and was all too happy to accept the order and depart. Normally, Severus might have commented, but today he had bigger fish to fry.

"Severus, I do not like you dismissing people from my office." His stern voice and grandfatherly persona only incensed Severus more.

"Albus, I do not like you trying to kill the one person I have promised to protect. I swore to keep him safe, for Lily, and I have done everything you have asked of me, but you go too far. In your infinite wisdom you have clearly missed some alternate solution or are as unbelievably presumptuous as to believe only you could know the right path. I tell you now that you are wrong, and I will not let you sacrifice her only son in this crackpot scheme of yours."

"It is not a crackpot scheme, as you put it, the prophecy itself says they must face each other. I had no control over them eventually coming head to head. As the prophecy said Harry has been marked and is obligated whether he sees it that way or not. His kind heart to do what others cannot will see him through, but he must die and Tom himself must do it." Dumbledore was resigned and Severus hated seeing him so, not because he felt sympathetic to Dumbledores feelings, but because it meant that Dumbledore had stopped looking for solutions and obviously didn't care to do so.

"You are wrong Albus. You are wrong and I will prove it. I will protect him from the Dark Lord just as I will protect him from you." The words hit Dumbledore as Severus had meant them to and Dumbledore flinched as if Severus had slapped him.

"Severus, do not think in this way, you must choose light, and this is the path we shall take." He spoke firmly, once again determined to get his point across.

"No, you choose light, I'll choose Lily." With those parting words, Severus exited the office.
