Change is Coming
"Zoe?" Charlie called.
"Not now Charlie, I have a meeting with Guy that I could really do without being late for." Zoe replied as she lifted a pile of paperwork from her desk and went to leave her office.
"Actually, it's about that."
"Okay but we'll have to walk and talk." Zoe gave in, but was still determined not to be late for once.
"Guy self has been sacked." Charlie told her.
"What?! When?" Zoe asked as she stopped and looked at Charlie, the shock evident across her face.
"Yesterday, the news made it's way down here just after you'd left last night. We don't know why but his replacement started this morning."
"They must have been planning this for a while to have a replacement already lined up." Zoe sighed. "I'm going up there now, keep things ticking over and I'll be back soon."
Zoe walked upstairs to the door that still had Guy's name on. She was just about able to knock on the door with the amount of paperwork in her arms.
"Come in." Came a female voice from the other side of the door. Zoe did as she was told and then lay the paperwork down on the woman's desk. The woman had blonde hair that was tied up in a perfect bun, her blue eyes were complimented perfectly by the make up on her face.
"Hi, I'm Marcia Richards, you must be the Clinical Lead down in the emergency department. You're going to have to remind me of your name though." Marcia told her as she looked through various sheets of paper for Zoe's name.
"Hello, I'm Zoe Hanna." Zoe replied as she extended her arm to give the other woman a handshake.
"Well I assume that you're here for your meeting Zoe?" Marcia asked and Zoe nodded. "I don't know what that meeting was abut and quite frankly I don't care. I'd like you to get me up to speed on your department and the problems that you're facing." Marcia continued with a warm smile.
"Okay well we have 6 doctors down there at present, one of which is on leave. We have a dozen nurses, so we're fine on that front."
"How do you get on as a team?"
"Generally okay, but there has been some cracks surfacing since Mrs Beauchamp's arrival." Zoe replied, the poison in her voice clear as she even mentioned Connie's name.
"Okay, and what issues is your department facing?" Marcia asked as she carefully took notes.
"Well we're understaffed on the doctor front, especially with the amount of pressure I'm under, which means that waiting times are quite high for minor injuries. We haven't got enough beds with the number of patients visiting the ED increasing. We're also under a lot of pressure as St James regularly closes it's ED and diverts to us. My team is under a lot of stress the way things are going and it's taking it's toll, I'm doing my best to improve the situation but what can you do when there isn't enough doctors to go round and then not enough beds for those patients to be in?" Zoe sighed as she'd finally finished her professional rant to her brand new boss.
"Okay, well you're the heart of this hospital down in the ED, so I'll do my best to help you down there. I promise something will be done." Marcia promised as she smiled at Zoe.
"Thank you, well I better get back down there, after all lives don't save themselves."
"Okay well I'll get back to you soon, oh and Zoe? Don't worry, change is coming."
A/N So if you follow me on twitter you'd have seen my rant on Saturday about Guy Self and about the need for a new boss, so here we are. I hope you enjoy this and a new chapter will be up as soon as I can, I'm extremely busy though. My twitter is BethSHeartbeat if you want to follow.
