Severus Snape was waiting next to the greenhouses. It was a beautiful, spring night. He stood there for ten minutes, wondering what was taking so long. What if he didn't get the note? What if she was too scared to come? These scary thoughts went through his head. Just ten, he heard someone say his name.

"Sev," he turned, the beautiful redhead made her way down to him.

"I'm glad you made it." Severus said, smiling.

"What is it you wanted to tell me?" Lily asked. Severus's smile slide off his face. He suddenly became scared of what he wanted to say. He looked off into the distance. Lily looked at him confusingly.

"What is it, Severus?" She asked. I love the way se says my name he thought. He looked back at her, heaving a huge sigh.

"Could we, er, ever be more than f-friends?" He stammered, trying to avoid those beautiful eyes. Lily just stood there, unable to think of what to say. Severus anxiously glanced up at Lily.

"Oh, Sev, I," she couldn't think of what to say.

"It's Potter. Isn't it?" He said with a sad note in his voice.

"I'm sorry Severus. I love James –"

"What do you see in him, though?" Severus said, cutting Lily off. "What does he have that I don't?" Lily sighed impatiently.

"Look, it's not that I think you're a bad person; I like you a lot, I do. I just don't like you more than a friend. And as to what I see in him, even though he can be arrogant, he's really nice, a good person, and he was willing to change for me. If you hadn't noticed, he's stopped picking on you."

"But what's wrong with me? I'm willing to change for you!" Severus said. Lily gave him a skeptical look.

"Are you willing to give up being a death eater?" She asked, folding her arms. Severus opened and closed his mouth several times, not knowing what to say.

"I'm sorry Severus. I can't be emotionally involved with someone like you." Lily said. Severus hung is head in sadness. Lily sighed. She stepped closer to him, and wrapped her arms around him. Severus wrapped her arms around her too.

"I'm really, really sorry. I love you as a friend. And I hope we can still be friends even though I'm with James," all the time Lily was speaking, Severus just stood there, holding the woman he most cherished in life, tears coming down his face. Lily pulled away from him. She looked at him a few seconds longer, kissed him on the cheek, and walked away. Severus was left there, alone, under a full moon.
