Ron tossed and turned, but every time he was almost asleep he thought of everything that had happened that night. Giving up, he trudged down to the common room.

He was almost down the steps, when he heard someone, quietly, crying. The Yule ball had finished long ago, everyone was in bed, who could possibly be up?

As Ron entered the common room, he noticed a slight figure in pink pyjamas, with brown, bushy hair, sat by the fire, sobbing quietly. Slowly, taking a deep breath, Ron walked over and put his arm around Hermione's shoulders.

"I'm so sorry," he whispered, "I can be bloody stupid sometimes." Hermione looked up at him with fierce eyes. She shrugged off Ron's arm, and got up to walk away, but Ron, gently, pulled her back. "Please, I just wanted to say sorry. I'll leave, and you can stay." He stood up slowly and started to walk away.

As Ron crossed the room he heard Hermione behind him, "Why?" she shouted, "Why are you acting like this?" Ron froze, and slowly turned to see a red faced Hermione, standing defensively, her eyes full of hurt. Ron carefully walked over to her. "If you cared so much why didn't you ask earlier?" she whispered, her eyes bright and wide. Ron blinked, unsure of how to respond. As Hermione walked up to him, challenging, Ron looked up, "Because I'm an idiot." He answered, "I honestly wish I had."

Hermione froze, shocked. Ron walked over to her, pulling her into a hug. "I'm so stupid sometimes, so bloody stupid." He whispered. Hermione gave in and relaxed into Ron's arms, as he led her over to one of the red armchairs. Ron gently pulled her on to his lap and held her, calm and serene. Hermione looked up, into his deep blue eyes. A tear slowly slipped down her cheek, Ron carefully wiped it away. Giving her a weak smile, he leant forward and kissed the top of her head.

He stayed perfectly still as Hermione looked up. Neither of them knew who leant in first, but the soon found themselves kissing. Hermione slowly pulled back, and hiccupped. "I think it's time you got some sleep." Ron Said, giving her one last, tight, hug. Hermione nodded, "Goodnight Ronald." She whispered, "Goodnight." Muttered Ron, smiling as went up to the boy's dorm.

Early the next morning, Hermione pulled Ron aside.

"Sorry about last night." She said, "No problem." Replied Ron, "Maybe we should just keep it to ourselves," Hermione suggested, "or how about we just forget it ever happened?" Ron went numb, "Sure." He mumbled, his eyes turning red, his body stiff.

And he stood, rooted to the spot as his first love nodded sternly, and walked away…
